Hi Everyone.
Im in the market to buy an EP/ES/EU Civic.
Id like to ask all the EP/ES/EU civic owners out there, opinions about the 7th gen civic.
Things such as:
- Pro's: What do u like?
- Con's: What dont you like?, What pisses u off? What is dumb about the car.
- Problems: u have encountered, common problems
- Aftermarket Support: what mods are out there?
- Comparison to the D16Y predecessor?

Much appreciated for your answers!
Cheers

i used to own a 7th gen,

to be honest i didnt like much about it.

cons:
- no power
- tiny tires
- bad handling
- in comparison to the d16 sohc vtec, the d17 soch non vtec found in gli was same or slower
- looks bland

buy the 8th gen, a much much better car

cons:
- see rk_86_wa post above, plus:
- doesnt like the interior looks

ahh so 7th gen isnt anything special then..?
from what u guys say it:
- lacks guts
- very slow (slower then a d16y)
- bad handling

is there anything good about this car? lol

i had a 7th gen, civic ES before. They werent too bad, compared to the EK sedan it was better. If your planning on mods..dont! because i doubt you'll find much for the 7th gen, unless u order from overseas. overseas theres quite a number of k20 7th gen civics.

only thing that i didnt like about the ES was the uncomfortable seats, the EK seats are much more firm.

=

my turning circle isnt like a truck dunno whats wrong with yours.

then again ive modded mine with all sussy mods i could think of on a car.

power wise it is shitty, thus y im geting a turbo in feb.

interior is pretty bland thus i dressed it up to make it look better.

wheels r small 14' OEM thus i put bigger 1's on

exterior looked ok from OEM and there is no sporty version of this car so it will never look aggressive stock. this i added bit to make it look better.
the only sports version is the EP3 type r and is totally different from the GLi & Vi.

if u want a car with good km per tank then this is a good car, i can get ova 700km with it in 1 tank

Other than what's been said above; the only other thing that's good is that it's a Honda!!!

It's a good family car though; not for modding.

2nd that, thats something i noticed to, another pro is that its the last honda civic gen made in japan. not saying 8th gen have crappy build, but in terms of the 7th gen, didnt have any problems, where as with the 8th gen, had power window problem and some other costmestic issues.
nothing major, but still wasnt happy considering its a brand new car.

if the 7th gen coupe came out here in AU i would of def gone for that.

awsome feed back guys!
im having second thoughts about buying an ES.
simply because id like a car with some degree of punch in the engine.
i used to own an EK1 and was NOT happy with that. so i dont think it will be any different with this 7th gen.

yes, i have heard the car is smooth and the aircon is awsome =D lol

thanks guys.

feel free to add more of the,
- Pro's: What do u like? Whats good about the car?
- Con's: What dont you like?, What pisses u off? What is dumb about the car.

Pro:cheap for a relatively new car, especially a honda.

Con: the resale value sucks, compared to older civics.

how do you get 700km out of one tank? amazing...........

pros:
- quite bland, but a good thing if you don't want to attract unwanted attention
- good to carry passengers around in
- as mentioned b4, the earlier ones were 'Made in Japan' Civic
- reasonably good on petrol and reliable (except for gearbox - see cons below)

cons:
- no power!
- not a lot of mods out there
- my auto gearbox died at 140K, apparently this is a design/reliability issue (?)

i agree with Riced Civic, you can make it look much better than bog stock with some nice simple mods
mine is lowered on 17s, has an RS grille, exhaust finisher, the side steps and i changed the head unit, that's it

ive actually checked once when i 1st got the car and i was bloody amazed with it. i change gears under 2500 rpm all the time. and most of the time its all cruzin. but when i get the turbo it'll prob drop to like 400 cos ill be obsessed with boost. lol

i have a 7th gen, great little car! couldnt be happier, but i am not an enthusiast like most of you, would agree that it does lack a little power, but very smooth, a little noisy though, but overall i love the car, great fuel economy as well, can get up to 600 kms on the 40L tank, i would rate it 8/10. Great car.

RedEu

are you thinking of modifying it?
I had a EU3 for 4 years before i sold it a couple of years back. Did some mods on it, I was purely into the handling side of things, so engine was left untouched, it was a VTi, which was a limited edition that came with the climate control (same dash found in EP3). I've spent a lot of time on researching where to get the parts & whether parts from the ES or the EP fits etc as the car is just rare, i have to say after mods, it attracted a lot of attention & thumbs up everywhere i go, i presume its because its so rare & people have no idea what car it is.

Pros:
-Rare
-Very Spacious;
-Storage Space;
-Car body was pretty stiff, no rattles even after stiffer suspensions were installed.

Cons:
-Steering wheel too light.
-More Power would be nice.

I've attached 2 pics.. :-)

I have a '02 Civic Vi (D17A2) XD

Pros:
- Lotsa space to put ur junk in
- A pretty normal car, won't attract attention
- Good build quality (well my rear right window rattles when volume is up)
- Pretty good fuel economy, avg 500km for me.
- 4 disc brakes =)

Cons:
- Gearbox (4 Speed auto = wtfbbq!?!?, get the manual one )
- Engine (only fun up to 60kph and then its boring, don't count on going faster than 175kph)
- Handling, doesn't go around corners when u push it hard.

Otherwise if you're just looking for an everyday driver which my little 5 door hatch does for me with the odd thrashing once every blue moon its a good little car that will serve you very well. But if u count on going fast and racing this car is a no go, look for an EP3 if u wanna go fast.

apparently the DC5 & EU shares the same platform & the same rear suspension, so fitting is purely remove & install, oh except of cos only needed to buy new bushes & brackets as the swaybar is larger in diameter, (i'm a cheapskate, i didnt want to spend $600+ for a swaybar from whiteline :p & they didnt have one for EU at the time, so i would be the 1st for them to model it up, thats why the price they quoted me was so high.)

Damnnn everyone seems to get great fuel economy with their Gen 7 Civics!

I've got an 03 Gli and the best I've ever got is around 450 from a tank. Most of the time its 400km or less...mmm maybe I need to change my driving habits? Please give me some advice about improving my fuel economy!

Con:
88kW Power
Stiff steering (maybe that's just mine)
Pro:
A very practical car, gets you from A to B pretty well

Only problem I've had was a blocked air filter which was picked up during it's 40kms service.

SHU-ES1
06-11-2008, 03:26 PM
I got an 03 GLi as well, and I get as least 450km on a full tank (~40L) - even with the more than occassional thrashing. The only thing I've done to it is put a SRI in, and I don't think that would make a significant increase in petrol consumption. I usually fill up with BP Ultimate or Shell Optimax? (forget the name). Is your car an auto? Mine is, and I think if they were manual we would be able to get 500+ like the other manual drivers with our model. So yours is pretty much standard. I thought I was the only one getting crappy fuel economy.

dawack1

Yeah, I've got an auto and am in the same positon as you - "occassional thrashing" and that's just you know revving to 4500-5500rpm (if that even counts). I use standard petrol and the only times I ever get close to 450km is if I've gone on long drives and also have driven quite conservatively :S.

Oh well, kinda relieved it's not just mine. Btw excuse the ignorance, SRI = something something intake?

oh and another Con for the 7th gen, excluding the reserve, you' effectively only have a tank of about 38-39litres (correct me if I'm wrong), which could get annoying i.e. frequent pumping of petrol.

SHU-ES1
06-11-2008, 03:58 PM
Yeh, true that. I fill up pretty much once a week because of the smaller tank. SRI is just short ram intake air filter thingy - i got it off ebay! :) Try filling up with the more expensive fuel and see if it makes a difference to your mileage.

bo279
06-11-2008, 04:27 PM
maybe u guys do more city driving than the others. i've noticed if i do more freeway/motorway driving, the fuel consumption is better. but if im in traffic alot, the consumption is higher.

wokstar88
06-11-2008, 04:54 PM
Strangely i use the standard stuff at the pump (91) and still get 450km+
Currently got BP Ultimate in the tank cos i didn't pay for it XD, the only differences i find are that vtec delivery and idling is a lot smoother with any 95 or 98, haven't really tested mileage but will let you know by the end of the week.
Then again i have an auto too and yeah, manual should always yield better mileage

Any 7th gen manual owners out there willing to enlighten us auto owners on the range you guys are getting?

Riced_Civic
06-11-2008, 05:56 PM
i got a manual and i was getting around the 600 mark. nearly all of my driving is constant., and i usually shift at 2k.

you're right bo279
i give my 7th gen a caning on the freeways and stuff and usually get 450+ km per tank, high 400s, sometimes very close to 500km

i think as it gets older there is less friction on the engine internals and so it 'moves better' (you know what i mean) and doesn't consume as much oil/petrol. all of course assuming you service it regularly

i don't think it's fair to compare manual and auto 7th gens cause you are always going to get better mileage from the manual. it's like what one guy said a few pages back - just shift around 2000rpm and you will get 600km :D (see above post!)

StealthR
06-11-2008, 10:26 PM
You guys aren't alone. Mine is also auto and only manage to achieve 430-450km per tank and that is changing gears at 3000 rpm.

hey riced can u link us to the gallery? i dont know my way around here that well.

also, how much would it cost to get fog lights fitted into my 7th gen? i'd have to go to a honda dealer specifically yeah. mmm HIDs would be nice as well. (my car is completely stock at the moment but i'm gaining some inspiration from all the 7th gens in the gallery :) )

SHU-ES1
10-11-2008, 02:47 PM
do you have the facelift model 7th gen? i've got the one without it, and picked up a set of foglights off ebay for $160AUD include postage and handling. i can link you to the specific seller if you wish. I think HIDs that fit for our cars are H4's. I've got two sets for both my normal headlights 10000k brilliant blue, as well as for my foglights 6000k super white for the extra vision at night coz the blue HIDs are really crap for visibility at night/rainy days. i think you will also need the hi/lo type of HIDs for your normal headlights because i got the wrong pair and now i'm stuck with no high beams, so they flash on and off when i try to engage high beams. if you're interested in a pair, i've got this guy in melbourne that can hook you up with some for a reasonable price! any pics of your 7th gen? good luck making it look sexy! :)

mmm i've got the pre-facelift. it's 03 model and if i remember correctly 04 is when the facelift happened?
anyways the prices of the fog lights and HIDs seem pretty reasonable. so ebay is generally safe for buying car parts huh? if getting HIDs, would it look bad if i had HIDs for the headlights but not for the fogs?
hows installation for all this stuff? i know for a fact that i wouldn't be able to install this stuff myself :P don't really want to take the risk either haha.

anyways if you're wondering what my car looks like at the moment, its dark blue (midnight blue?) and has a rear spoiler :P. all stock. i'm going to get it tinted sometime this week. i need to earn some money these holidays so i'll check back with you in a few months i hope, when i'm ready to spend on fogs + HIDs :D. thanks

i might've seen your car around SHU-ES1, especially if you go to monash. theres a car at monash, black ES1, dark tint and replaced exhaust with massive tip. sounds nuts, it's not your one is it haha?

ah, you got the same model as me! here is a link for the foglights if ever you want to buy them.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Honda-Civic-02-03-Fog-Lights-Fog-lamps-Complete-Set-NEW_W0QQitemZ350096814290QQcmdZViewItem

i pretty much installed my own. it's quite easy, just take out the plastic covers in the bumper and then screw on the foglights - bumper needs to be removed for this. the switch is easy, goes where the side mirror controls are - the compartment comes out very easily. the tricky bit is getting the wire harness in and connected which is where i paid to get that done. i have a DIY forum that i can link to you if you do ever want to DIY. i think if you are going to get the HIDs, you might as well get two sets for both headlights and foggies - it looks much cooler! :)

riced, let us know when you open up the thread to post up the 7th gens in, since i haven't seen many pics in the gallery and would like to get some ideas on how to hot it up!

dawack1, i use to go to monash clayton back in the early 2000's but i've graduated now. i haven't got an exhaust for my car - will be coming at xmas as a present! eeeeeee! my car has a different black to the standard nighthawk black, i've had a full respray with extra blue pearl in it so it looks pretty - more bluish - during the day :) my baby is sitting on 18's too!

i'd like to see some pics of everybody's 7th gens! and maybe we should organise a melb meet, even if its only a few of us, would be cool! :)

thanks for the link SHU-ES1. So theres my goal for the next few months, save up enough for fog lights + HIDs + installation (too scared to do it on my own haha).

i'm thinking about taking my car into tint-a-car to get it tinted, they said it "starts from as little as $200" and price will depend on what i choose. everyones had good experiences with tint-a-car i hope? any recommendations for other places in melbourne?
i'll have to choose the colour of the tint, it's going to be hard to decide...dark on a dark blue car, or blue on a dark blue car? mmm feels like i'm playing need for speed underground haha.

SHU-ES1
10-11-2008, 04:41 PM
haha. i got my tinting done at premier tint in keysborough for ~$250 about 4 years ago, 2nd darkest tint.. thinking about it now, i should've gone the darkest - almost pitch black. looks awesome! i just thought about the trouble parking, and vision at night if i went for the deepest colour. if you go for the darkest "legal" tint, its a greenish tinge which imo looks yuck!

hey guys,
some nice looking sedans. there aren't any hatchbacks represented yet but...
planning to mod mine once my exams finish (and i get some money) so keen to get some ideas.
what i have planned so far in chronological order: 18" black rims chrome lip, low suspension set up (coilovers if my christmas bonus is good enough haha), catback exhaust, SRI and post facelift projector headlights (my HIDS are currently blinding everyone with my reflectors =[ )
ill definitely post some pics once its worthy enough... but still a long way to go haha

you should be able to turn your headlights down to aim them closer to the ground.. i think there's a little screw that will fit a phillps-head, face it towards a wall about 7-10m away and you can tune it from there.. i had the same problem for almost 3 years until i figured it out. hope it helps!

Hey guys, used to own an ES sedan but sold it at the end of last year. I know aftermarket parts are hard to come by, but I've still got a full stainless steel cat-back exhaust lying around at home. I bought it in america, its a 'Megan Racing' exhaust, madrel-bent and had a nice deep tone to it. Still got some vids and pics of it on my car. So if anyone was looking for one, Im located in sydney and pm me. Btw parts are easy to get from america (i had an hks hipower before, an rs grille, and k & n filter that i bought in america, but have already sold). Thanks.

well, not too much really. im still tossing up between the catback exhaust, or just a muffler. honestly, i just want it to sound nice because i know unless i boost it, its not going to be very fast. haha.. any suggestions?

Riced_Civic
11-11-2008, 04:34 PM
just get the axle back, doin up this car is very hard unless boosted for swapped. even a full NA build will only net u like 120kw atw for $15k where as if u go turbo u can get 140kw for $8k.

my turbo build is gonna cost me around $10K cos im aiming for 160kw

Riced_Civic
11-11-2008, 06:09 PM
AKmotorworks in ringwood is doing my custom kit for 10k with the extras i want to add, Andy is the best i reckon. his stage 2 boost kit is around 7k which would suit best for this car.

Auto to Manual not 2 sure im guessing from around 1.5k to 2k maybe cheaper not sure mate. give Andy a call his a trader on the forums.

DC5.Raven
11-11-2008, 06:12 PM
I personally dont think changing auto to manual is worth it tho man. Ur better off just trading in for manual version of ur car or just getting a different manual car. The reason I did cat-back & intake was purely for the sound it would make.

DC5.Raven
12-11-2008, 12:36 PM
if u wanted the deep note a wrx makes then u'll have to go with a cat-back. axlebacks wont make much difference in sound. but just to let u know, u'll never get the same exact sound. diff engine, turbo etc etc. heres the megan racing cat-back that was on my car:

its really dark and bad vid quality. but thats pretty much how it sounded. its the exhaust i still have lying around.

Hey guys, haven't been on here in a while, how are your cars?
Today we got my Civic serviced, it was a Harrier service for 45k and they said something about not being able to replace the power steering fluid because its a special Honda type that my non-Honda dealer has no access to. I need to do a wheel alignment some other time, it hangs to the left too much.

Anyways my dad and I were talking about how mediocre this car is, I'm sorta over it. I guess I've just got over it (its stock) although I've only had it for a year. I'm curious to see how much I can sell the car for, it seems to vary a lot on Carsales.
Its a Honda Civic GLi MY03 sedan, 45k on the clock, serviced regularly, no serious issues with it at all. What would you price it at?

Let me start off by saying, yes everyone i have to say but it is a CHICK CAR. Plenty of friends have noticed that space in the center, many of them have claimed its handbag space >_<

But I personally dont have any problems with it, just shove ur take away or a box of tissues nxt to the handbrake like i do. I found it pretty handy yesterday getting out of the car after parking my Vi near the corner of a busy intersection, i just crawled over to the passenger side and got out without risking my drivers door getting swiped by some idiot. imo i think the lack of console is a plus.

I used to have an '01 VI. white, with white 17" rims (no idea what), spoon muffler, SRI (k&n pod filter), coilovers, shithouse chinabrand tyres and TypeR stickers (stickers made the car 120% faster). gave it to my lil bro after procuring a DC5R.

pro's:
- lotsa space, especially at the back.
- good mileage (avg 500k)

- SLOW as a push bike.

lol u guys are going to have to translate for me :P. i'm on my Ps so i don't think i can get turbos etc.

visually, what i want to do is:
- fog lights (with HIDs hopefully)
- get rid of my rear spoiler (somewhat undecided still)
- muffler tip, don't wanna spend too much on a whole exhaust system
- rims (eventually)
- lower (eventually, a bit worried about the speed bumps in my area haha)

performance-wise, needless to say i want to improve the handling whilst increasing acceleration, at no cost to fuel consumption :P

i just did a google search on the term "k20" - so that's like a whole new motor!? i'm just a student so obviously cash is going to be an issue, i can't have it all haha

thanks guys

EDIT: I also hear a lot about these "K&N Air filters", are they expensive? My understanding of air filters is that if they get dirty, your fuel economy decreases - this was happening to my car before its 35k service.

- muffler tip, don't wanna spend too much on a whole exhaust system - just get a muffler, ur not gonna gain much from these cars with a full cat-back
- rims (eventually) - 16"min in my book, either go 16" to 17" JDM or the VIP 18" to 20" look for best styles.
- lower (eventually, a bit worried about the speed bumps in my area haha) - i would go coils for just height adjustable which can easily be done at home.

thanks for the replies guys

i had a look on the net and it looks like because im on green p's (post july 07, pre july 08) i can't put in any of those engine modifications because they add to the power of the car. however, what are the chances of a civic getting pulled over and inspected by the police? (famous last words?)

riced, about my rear spoiler it's just the standard ones that come with 03 gli's. by "boot lipped" do you mean the ones on like the civic hybrid, coz thats not what i have. my issue with getting rid of the rear spoiler is the fact that theres just going to be tape over the holes.

in regards to rims, i think with my car 16s or 17s max would be the go, but i'm going to leave rims til ive saved up a bit more. stock rims arent so bad as long as you keep em clean hehe.

replacing the coils naturally lowers the car right, but how does that effect the comfort of the ride? also, my car is quite loud for something with so little grunt, i realise its because of the high revs required but i've seen somewhere on this forum that you can get like engine insulation or something?

thanks for the tips guys. i really wish i could do some of the engine modifications, legally - a better air filter would be good i reckon! btw, how do you guys fund your car modifcations!? it's so hard to raise the money and then be prepared to part with it, especially when working just part time.

Riced_Civic

my coilovers feel like stock when set on the softest setting but i usually set them up in the mid 12 to 14 range as i like the stiffer ride, i have a 32 click setting point on my coilovers.

if its the case with the modding laws just go with the lowering and rims its makes for a good looking car to drive around, with the air filter i would just get a replacement 1 theres no need for a pod filter.

Jokkahk
09-02-2009, 08:15 PM
ive got some cheapo airfilter pod in my car, doesnt really do much to power just makes a deeper sound when you rev it lol sounds good tho

oh and changing to aftermarking springs will make your car lower and the ride will be stiffer.

do u mean now or when i get my turbo??

Now i think i have 70-80 kw, lol it sounds so low :P

turbo im planing on making about 130-140,

then with a full build ill try for 280 or so.

SHU-ES1
10-02-2009, 10:42 AM
i think you're probably going about it in the right way, to get power from our cars would require a bit of an investment into them. i believe turboing is the more economical option in comparison to an engine swap. but there's probably more you could do with a turbo'd engine if you had the funding for it.

visually, what i want to do is:
- fog lights (with HIDs hopefully) - easily picked up on ebay depending on what type of front bar you have. i picked mine up for about $160AUD about 6 months ago, and last time i checked they are still around the same price. HIDs will cost you about $100.
- get rid of my rear spoiler (somewhat undecided still) - do that, its ugly :P
- muffler tip, don't wanna spend too much on a whole exhaust system - just got a muffler tip put in a few months ago as well just for a bit of noise, but does nothing for performance. i opted for the dual muffler rather thant he cannon type muffler, as i think the cannons are alot louder and more grumbly. i also had an intake put in for that nice deeper noise that comes from the engine, it makes it even louder than what it is with the oem airbox! :P too bad no vtec in sedans :(
- rims (eventually) - depends on what look you're going for, like riced said you can go for the JDM look with some nice 16-17" rims or you go for the VIP look and get some nice 18-20" dished rims. i've fitted 18"s on my car and i think it looks small from certain angles, so try get bigger if you can:P
- lower (eventually, a bit worried about the speed bumps in my area haha) - coils will cost you about $2000 for a nice setup which i'm hoping to get soon. dw about speedbumps, they will make you a more cautious driver :P

i hope it works well with whatever you want to do, and as for funds, i think most of us have some sort of jobs that fund our little projects. so maybe you should start with the more affordable options and work your way up, or you can save for a while and blow it all in one go and give your baby a complete makeover :P

and dan, i wish my car had 80kw, sometimes it feels like i've got about 50 if i'm lucky! hehe. i'm hoping to get myself a DC5 or EP3 within the next year or so! I just love the k20 engine! i wish there was also more es1 owners as there aren't many ppl to get information off in regards to modding, or parts for that matter! give us the es1 coupe from the US!! they're hot!

ps. show us some pics of your car dawack :)

Thanks for the advice, SHU-ES1...mmm it looks likely that fogs + HIDs will be the first thing i'll do, it looks like its the only thing i can afford at the moment hehe. im just a bit worried about having to install them myself. also, does it look weird having HID fogs with normal head lights?

Getting rid of rear spoiler will also be DIY yeah? again, i'm a bit worried about doign all this stuff myself but don't wanna get ripped off. about the muffler tip, i reckon i'll put it in after doing the fogs but there seems to be a lot of choice when it comes to that. pity u can't test out the sound before putting it in hehe.

Suspension + rims would be better done at the same time yeah? i had no idea changing the springs would cost so much, but is that price you mentioned including the coilovers (i have no idea what they are, will check it on google lol).

i'm going to try to put aside around $600 for the fogs + HIDs + muffler tip, then u guys can hook me up with a place where they can install all this stuff for me :P

Anyways, i'll take a pic of my car as soon as ive washed it, im sure it'll be nice for you guys to have a reminder of how a stock civic looks like haha :P. and whatever anyone says, i'm going to believe my civic has 88kw of power as per the specifications haha.

Thanks

i was thinking about getting HID fogs, but i choose not to now coz i already have HID driving lights. so i keep the foglights stock i like it like that :D

me and my cuzin installed the fogs ourselves it was hard at first with the wires and the rest was eazy.

this is my muffler tip lol!

hey SHU-ES1, i've decided to get those same fogs u linked me to ages ago:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Honda-Civic-02-03-Fog-Lights-Fog-lamps-Complete-Set-NEW_W0QQitemZ220360356916QQihZ012QQcategoryZ42613Q QcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

i like the shape of them compared to the circular ones. i want to get some HIDs for it and one of my friends is selling his 6000k HIDs from his 07 civic fog lights, will they work with this pair? also, what installation instructions did you use?

thanks

EDIT: i found this set of instructions for the 05 hybrid, would it be similar for my 03 sedan even though it has a slightly different front?

When you receive the foglights, they should come with globes in them already. Check them first, just to make sure you're going to buy the right ones. I think they are H4's or H4a's, but I'm not a 100% sure as it's been a while since I last had a look at them. I hope that helps.

sway bar will be given when i get my custom 28mm or 32mm cant decide.

strut bar ill have a look i think i have my old 1 sum where.

i got it to get the whole car free flowing since i already and a CAI and exhaust system, it gets very happy after 4k rpm

SHU-ES1
26-02-2009, 10:16 AM
do the headers increase fuel consumption? coz i'm struggling to get 400km as it is for some reason now. i don't know why, it's been like this the last 2-3 top ups i'm running average 9.5L/100km. i haven't driven any differently and air con hasn't been used excessively, so i'm still trying to figure out the problem. you guys ever have this happen to you? i tried that stuff you put in the fuel to clean out the engine so i'm still waiting to see how that goes. i'd like the front strut :) and maybe even the headers too! hahaha.. how much do they cost to install roughly?

Jokkahk

Riced_Civic

headers to install should only be like 100 max, tho i got mine done for 80, i would not go any higher then 100 other wise it will be a rip.

the header might be sold tony sorry, but if chan is looking at getting a cusco one, and if i can remember where i put it u can take it off me

with the fuel apparently the header give u better fuel eco but i have yet to see any proof of that

Have only just looked at the comments
I have 2001 Vi auto got it as demo in 2002
Have averaged 7.32l/100km and regularly get 600km per tank. My guess is it has a 45l tank as I've gone over 43l at a fillup. Best was 707km but that included country driving. Most of my driving is city rush hour tho Adelaide is not as clogged as Sydney or Melbourne and you can average 50kmh on a drive to work. I'm not a snail pace driver either so don't know what you others are doing that uses so much fuel.
Good points
Plenty of legroom front and back. I'm 6'3" and will fit in back with driver's seat right back. No other car in it's class for room inside.
Good power leaves Corollas Lancers Nissans of similar cc for dead. VTEC is definite advantage but you've got to keep the revs up. Would prefer manual but wife can't drive them.
Fuel consumption obviously. Used to have 88 DX sedan and had a CRX 1600 TC auto dropped into that, was quite quick then but used more fuel than the Vi and wasn't as quick.
Against
Seats are too small and uncomfortable. Would like Recaros but $2000 per seat is rediculous. Had some in a 78 Accord I had, awesome, wish I'd kept them. Have been told no other Honda seats fit an EU Vi w/o lot of work. Anyone got some Type R EP3? seats they don't want?
Gearbox won't kick down quick enough when negotiating small roundabouts and there is a definite hesitation when you put on the gas which Honda says they can't fault but I think it's dangerous if you need power in a hurry after slowing down or braking.
Overall good set of wheels but I would like to change the wheels and tyres and get some better seats.

Friends 7th gen civic stock as a rock, manual does about 3k-3.5k revs at 100km/h as well, which kinda surprises me cos my sisters getz auto with a tiny engine does about 2k-2.5k rpm on the freeway. Also if your air conditioner is on your revs might be slightly higher as well.

Thanks Jokkahk!
I have seen photos of these on Ebay and such and wondered if they would fit as the runners look very similar with the same shape
I will hit the wreckers tomorrow and try out those first
Will let youse know what I find.

can someone tell me the difference between shock absorbers and coilovers? i had a quote from koni in regards to shock absorbers for my es1, and they said $950 for both front and rear but i was told shock absorbers didn't come with springs? is this correct? also, in regards to being able to adjust height and ride stiffness, which is better? i was thinking of getting coilovers, can anyone suggest any other brands with reasonable pricing where i can find the melbourne distributors?

i have H&R Sports springs for cheap , then just get some shocks

Shocks and springs come seprate, and are usally sold in front and rear "pairs"

Didn't mean the WHOLE 7th gen Civic were slow, calm down all of ya. GLi, Hybrid, Vi is crap slow stock standard. EP3 on the other hand is 'wtf happened to the gene pool?'
But just saying cos its based on the same platform as a DC5 its literally the same car with a smaller engine and more doors. Check it out from the from fenders the wheel base and the A-pillar, pretty much the same.

loving the more firm ride i get when going around bends/corners, feels like the car actually sticks a little now. can't wait for my coilovers to be done in july! gonna be awesome! thanks again for the help dan. oh, and you're right the car does feel like it revs harder and breathes easier with the headers/exhaust! i left your cannon and jack stands at AK, did you get them back?
