Just wondering roughly how many Km's can be done after the fuel indicator comes on?

My Fuel indicater jumps alot too. I start the car and it goes it is almost empty but after like 10 minutes of driving it is saying that it has almost a quarter tank of fuel, just wondering if that is normal.

Depends how big your reserve fuel tank is.

It is not advisable to run around with the fuel light on as you are picking up the rubbish in the bottom of your fuel tank.

So it's a good thing to be picking up the rubbish at the bottom of the fuel tank and injecting it into the engine?

You could probably get away with another 70-100km, but i wouldn't go above 60km just to be safe.

your sender sounds stuffed so theres no point even answering your question.

best thing to do is:
- see how much you fill up to full tank from the light coming on
- deduct that amount from your full tank capacity
- calculate how many KMs you travelled for the amount you filled up
- apply that calculated ratio to what was remaining in your tank

that ain't a good rule of thumb especially since everyones senders give different readings to gauge. stupidly enough i believed this at one time and ran out of fuel trying to get to my favoured petty station... didn't make it, car shut off and i used what momentum of 60km/h i had left to the shell station that was coming up going up the ramp without braking until the bowser :/

it usually means you have around 10 litres left

example:

- i did 400km till yellow light came on
- i filled up to 40l even though i know i have a 45l tank therefore i have a 5l reserve
- i do 10km per litre (400km÷40l=10km/l)
- 10km x 5l = 50km MAX remaining travel....

you can work it out yourself over a few refills..
these days i rely on my tripmeter rather than my fuel guage. if i really need to drive on i know my car can drive 580km before it might die...once i hit 580km i know i have around ~4-5L of fuel left..

prelude tank is 60L and my car does 9.6L/100km most of the time
usually i fill up once i've travelled 500km

Thanks for the reply guys :)

Just one more question, something weird happened just then when i went to lunch i put my windows all the way down and turned off my car for like 20mins and when i was about to leave the car i tried putting the windows up and my passenger seat window wouldn't budge but the window on the driver seat was fine, then i started up my car and tried putting up the window on the passenger seat and it worked. I just found it weird... would anyone be able to tell me what the problem was?

50km was all I felt comfortable travelling in mine with the light on when I bought the car, lol

still had 1.5l left til empty so 60 MAX, lol

I fill up the tank when it gets close to 1/4 always as the petrol staions have fun on tuesdays and decide not to sell preimum near my area on that day, fk heads...

when i think about it maybe i shouldn't run my tank too low next time.

i started my car today after parking somewhere. not sure if it's a fuel issue but i took off normally with light throttle..revs hit 2500rpm, i was about to shift and the car jerked forward and back slightly 2 or 3 times...

it felt like something was forcing my revs to come down.

could it have been something in my injectors? =_=
slight fuel surge?
