New Here. DC5 v Civic sport

Hey,

At the moment i drive a 92 EG civic but im looking at buying a new car very soon.
I have always liked the DC5s..

I just wanted to know what you guys/girls think bout the 2006+ Civic Sport? i test drove a VTI on the weekend but yet to test drive a Sport.
Also i haven't yet driven a DC5 so i wanted to know your thoughts on that as well.

you should really reveal what u want the car for and what ur hoping to gain/lose. if we dont know what your looking for in a car, it all comes down to personal preference as opposed to hard facts and numbers and extras

The DC5, esp the type R/S is a sports car, so you lose out on the lux features, what you gain is a very powerful car.

the Civic you have a 4 door sedan, the DC5 a 2 door, so depending on your situation its up to you.

My opinion is get a DC5, better looking and more powerful, but iam biased :)

Yeah i am more into the DC5s. Just the look is heaps good. Plus Power. there are a few on carsales that im looking at..
BUT i also liked the VTI that i test drove so i just wanna drive a sport to compare it..

I think if i got a DC5 i would be more aiming for how much N/A power could i get outta it, so mods would be on the list. BUT if i got a Civic i think i would just focus on looks, dropped, wheels, Mugen Kit and exhuast..

You really dont need more power out of the dc5, its fast as it is, so u can just focus on the appearance and also have the power there.

nothing with mine, with honda's you're pretty much safe with engine problems and all.

The base is okay, decent power with the looks. I think the base is k20a3 and the type S is the k20z1

i think the sport has 118kws as well same as the base dc5

Kpro alone gives some gains but not much. You're better off doing intake, exhaust and header first and then getting the kpro after.

I am looking more towards the DC5 BUT the Civic is Newer and might keep it's value longer.. also for a 2007 model it wont have that many Kms.
One on car sales with 20000Kms.
Also i have been asking round bout Tein Springs for a DC5. looks like no one is Aus sells em. is this true?

Funny you write that cos something like that happend with my EG civic BUT it was more sucsesful than that. Although the EG Hatch has NO ROOM IN THE BACK :p

Yeah i got a quote for $198 for a set of king Springs. for DC5.. i dont even have the car and im looking at prices and things to buy..

Go Hard tim, I dnt recomed buying a black Type S though with black leather, if theires a little sun out it becomes like an oven! but i think that goes for all black cars?

pace yourself with parts as shiz is very expensive these days due to the strength of the dollar, so make sure you do heaps of re-search b4 you buy things like rims & exhausts & stuff like dat!

yeah i been researching heaps of stuff before i go ahead and buy it..
I think if i got a DC5 i would try to give it a Pure JDM look. mugen exhuast etc.
But i do like the white civics as well. i had a look on OH in the pictures, there is some nice civics around.. BUT one had 19" wheels wow, thats massive, i think i would be more looking at 17" and a good Drop.

if ur gonna make a choice by the engine, the dc5 is much better. althought they both come with a 2ltr K series, the k20z2 in the civic sport is just not up to par with the dc5 engine. although its probably too early to tell how much potential there is in the audm fd2 civic engine, signs are that it lacks performance. :(

Well The VTI Civic has a R18 or somethign? is that correct? and i test drove it on the weekend and it seem to have some power.

yeah, the vti's got an r18a in it. ive got a 2007 vti... but it is a sohc engine and and the r18 is pretty much just an econobox. its heavily made for saving feul consumption rather than performance. unlike the old b series engines and k20a, there is no real vtec kick at high rpm. apparently the vtec on an r18a engine kicks in between 1000-3500 rpm...

here's a diagram to demonstrate. this is for the r18a engine and the red indicates when vtec is activated.

there are a few turbo kits available that may boost performance, but as a stock engine, the r18 or even the k20z2 engines dont really cut it if ur going for performance.

i do love the shape of the 8th gen civics tho. they're a very practical car and do look good with a bit of a mugen kit or fd2r kit, but its all for show unfortunately. unless uve got money to do some heavy research and modification to the engines. but if i had the money, i would definitely go for the type s or type r dc5.

no way u have a K20A in ur sport mate... unless u got ur k20a from a 2007/2008 jdm fd2r, u should only be rolling in a K20Z2 in that civic sport.

like ive said before, the k20z2 in the audm civic sport is the worst of the k series. engine transplants cant contain an engine older than the chasis. so... if uve got the money, chuck a k24 accord euro engine into the fd2 or somehow get ur hands on a jdm fd2r engine...
