hi there, after i have installed a oil cooler, i was searching for the normal oil temp, since my one has been around 50 to 75degree C, then i went on internet to see what engine oil is within that range,
it turns out the 10W30 recommented in the owners M is not within this range.
according to this website:
http://images.google.com.hk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/trouble_shooting/Engine/Engine_Oil_Grades.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/trouble_shooting/eng.html&usg=__o7TYFJh6_Q5Uqte3iiA4Yy2-xSg=&h=366&w=482&sz=39&hl=zh-TW&start=62&um=1&tbnid=WTMXCSi11OuzZM:&tbnh=98&tbnw=129&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dengine%2Boil%2Btemperature%2Brange%26 ndsp%3D20%26hl%3Dzh-TW%26sa%3DN%26start%3D60%26um%3D1
so, what is going on with what oil should use???

I used 10W30 on my EK. it was on 85-90 deg on winter and 95-100 deg on summer.

sounds more like the oil temp gauge is not reading right

thats too low.
why are you using an oil cooler?
is your engine turbo'd or do you get to the track often?
does your cooler have a thermostat? did you increase your oil pressure when you installed the cooler?

You are undercooling your oil. My guess is that the sandwich plate does not have an inbuilt thermostat, like the trust oil cooler kits etc.
Go get a sanchwich plate with thermostat (I have one for sale btw, a Trust one :D) or cover the oil cooler core with a rag, so that it does not get direct air flow to it. Take off the rag when you hit the track.

did u relocate the oil temp sensor, when installing the cooler?
maybe it is now downline of a non working thermostat in sandwich plate like mentioned above or its exposed more to airflow & not reading oil temps correctly.could even be reading the cooled oil,not the engine oil temp, something along those lines....

Hes got the same cooler setup as mine. No thermostat. I just put a cover over my cooler in the winter time.

the oil temp is still sitting on my old sandwich plate at the oil filter original position
no thermostat,
reason puting in is because i will start going to track once in a while as soon as i have some time, and thinking of going to turbo my car.
and going on hill runs put my oil temp to 110 to 125 degree C. before i installed my cooler

If your oil is that cold, I suggest you run 5w-30, instead of 10w-30. Will offer slightly more protection.

Same thickness, different additives for cold start lubrication. The 5W will give it more protection on cold start, where it will be for longer than running no oil cooler, opposed to the 10W.
