Not sure how that would work as Plastic rear window is bigger than the glass window, have you considered replacing the whole roof?

You have to replace the whole roof. The glass window folds diffrently

If too expensive to get here try Ebay from US. I paid under $1000 for new roof and this was including postage, this was back when USvsOZ had good currency exchange

Hope this helps.

if its any help I purchased a robbins glass top from US for under $1k AUD shipped.
friend installed it himself. took a full weekend, but the end result was very good. near perfect fitment. PITA to install, but well worth the learning experience.

Hey guys,

I'm also in Adelaide and looking to replace my roof, upgrading the window to glass with defroster at the same time. I have spoken to many places around AUS for quotes, and to make sure that whatever i get is going to be quality. A guy in Sydney can provide a top custom made with the highest quality two tone Sonnendeck fabric from Germany for just under $3000 installed, but said he couldn't reccommend a fitter in Adelaide to do the job, and lots of places will only supply it to a fitter because apparently (safety standards?) do not allow you to fit it yourself. Spencer P W Motor Trimmers in Adelaide have quoted me around the $800 mark for labour, factoring in a 10 hour job. They're happy to source a roof for you or byo, and he's *pretty sure* he's done one or two S2K roof replacements in his time.... "is that the one with the long nose??" hmmmmm. I might do some more shopping around... :)

If you've found anything please let me know, and if not, i'm pretty close to just ordering the best i can find in the US; so can anyone personally vouch for the quality of either www.convertibletopguys.com or www.topsonline.com? The exchange rate is a lot better now than it was when I first looked into replacing my soft top!

If I do this I might look at doing the replacement myself as i'd really like to learn, and it's almost uni holidays which means i'll finally have some time on my hands.. rokkuchan are you in on this??? :)

Hey Dude, let me know if ya gonna get one and DIY, i can help as I wanna do mine too. And yes buy one from Topsonline (Robins stayfast). I've been researching for months of how to take things a part, just haven't got the time and still gaining my confidence, my car is a daily and i need my roof since it's been raining. haha

Whatever happened to you getting your Hardtop? I was near locked in to getting one, then read you were having difficulties. This was something that worried me, as the supplier wanted all costs paid up front.

Hmmm yeah i was also looking into doing the top on my own befor the end of the year as i have the 2 little tears, stupid rubing bars :P

Go the canvas option, I cant remember if its stayfast or HV. The more expensive one is better. I have installed both on my car. Canvas shines.

bit of an old thread.. but just thought id mention what i have. i got mine from tops online, $780 delivered. am currently part way through installing it. removing the old roof took about 2 hours, now i need to take the rain guard from the old roof, rivet it to the new roof and put the new roof on, but i need to buy some rivets tomorrow before i can get anywhere.. it isnt an easy task so far, just fiddly things like removing the plastic panels from in behind the roll bars/above boot area.. next task is to put the rain guard on the new roof, and mount the straps to the frame then its ready to go together..

A part of me regrets getting stay fast cloth over the OEM fabric. granted it does look alot nicer but its less practical and so hard to keep clean. everything sticks to it. Ive got cats who constantly jump up on my car and sleep on the roof and it takes alot of effort to get all the cat hair off it and due to the fact I dont have an uner cover garage I put a car cover ontop of my car when weather is bad and my car cover has a cotton lining to stop it from damaging the paint... but when I remove the cover the roof is covered in bits of cotton that have stuck to it. Where as with the OEM fabric you dont have any of these problems.

I guess it all depends on your particular situation as to which option is more practical for you

I have the robbins soft top too which is cloth and I dont have any issues with keeping it clean or stuff sticking :P

It seems to maintain itself quite well, but then again I dont have any cats climbing on my car and it is garaged overnight. I still prefer the look of the robbins top over the standard also as it looks more modern and fresh :) very happy with a cloth top!

OK.. so it was 3 nights instead of 2 for me to install the new top.. but i didnt get much done the first night, took about 2 hours to get the old roof off, then realised i dont have any rivets to rivet the rain guard to the new roof, so that stopped me there. on night 2 i didnt get started til about 8:30, got the rain guard fitted to the new roof, and looked around seeing how it would all go together, worked for about 2 hours, although most my time was wasted trying to find washers and stuff and getting the fitted. the rivets were a bit short and i only had larger washers.. bad combination but with persistence it worked. having the correct long rivets and correct sized washers would have finished it in less than 30 mins. so at this point 4 hours.. but could have really been 2-3. the final night i got stuck in and worked out how to mount the straps for the 4th bow, then put the roof on. everything went pretty smooth. was about 4-5 hours on the 3rd night, so all up about 8 hours to do it. got finished just in time to take the car to the tyre show the next day to put the new wheels on :)

it seems to be a similar material to the original roof. my only complaints was insufficient instructions, but i worked it all out anyways, i think they should have supplied a few rivets for attaching the rain guard, would have been so much easier haha.. and around the window the ends of the stitching is visiible, every time i look in the rear view mirror i see the stitching ends hanging down infront of the glass.. kinda annoying so ill cut them shorter. il post some pics soon, tonight im doing a photoshoot using the car, so hopefully ill remember to grab a few shots of the roof while im doing it.

HI guys, i am new and just got my s2000 yesterday .Firstly, i like to say its a great car to drive and bring bk memories of my old 240zs but naturally more modern in its tech and drive too
I must admit its harder to see the back when its plastic while reversing...
.Guess the cheapest way around it is to each time have the hoot down when i reverse and might probably kill the convertible top motor.

and be careful on cold mornings. the plastic's brittle when cold and might crack if you try to put the top down
