do a search
Mongoose M series and viper seem to be reliable and reccomended..they range from 200-400 for mongoose and viper's are abit more $$ .. or you could fork out heaps for a better one but depends on your personal preference

at the very least get a 3 point immobliser, with black wiring & a backup siren.
Also if you get a insurance approved one you can get a discount on your insurance premium
I've got the m60 and its great, even has window lifters so i dun have to worry about closing windows.

mongoose m60 is insurance approved like limbo said to look for.
mongoose m80 is the next one up from the m60.
in regards to good alarms, any alarm is as good as its install.
rubbish install = rubbish alarm
but i would be looking for something with what limbo said.
black wiring especially. 2 or 3 point immobiliser. and a back up siren.
agree with limbo

I got myself the M60S couple weeks ago. All in all a very solid alarm system. As CRXDEL501 pointed, rubbish install = rubbish alarm so go to somewhere reputable. Make sure you test the alarm function there and then with the installer once they finished so you can make sure that all the sensors are put in place and the alarm actually works!
One thing to note though, as pointed out by the Mongoose HQ, is that the 2009 models seem to have some issues with the antenna range. If you can, get the installer to place the antenna somewhere more 'open' and not hide it deep within the console.

Hey all just wanted to update everyone on the Mongoose 2009 Series alarm that I purchased and installed couple months back that had a very short RF range.
I have been advised by Mongoose's HQ in Brisbane that there was indeed an issue with the RF Modulator and they have gotten new parts to replace existing units.
I'll have to get the installer to remove the module and send it back with 1x remote.
Just be aware when you're getting one of the 2009 Mongoose alarm and make sure that it comes with the new modulators to avoid the hassle!
Nevertheless good on Mongoose for addressing the issue with practical solutions.

iv had the mongoose m80 and currently m20 at the moment. The m80 is a good alarm but the downside of it was the volume of the alarm is pretty soft, the auto immobiliser can get annoying. The m20 is alot louder but downside being a basic model.
The good thing with the mongoose alarms is that you have the option of add-ons, optional sensors etc. Im keen on the smsing pager add-on which sends an sms when the alarm goes off.

too bad the Mongoose alarms don't come with remote start option. Would love to have that too for the cold mornings.. come to think about it, gonna be under -1 - -6 soon here.
