amp/sub dc5r

hey guys,

so i've just bought myself a cheap sub and amp for my dc5r, i dont want to lose my boot space and i dont like that messy look with the cabling n shit, so ive thought of making a false floor. has anyone attempted this on their ride before? im just looking for tips, and how they went about doing it.
Also, when you bolt the amp down to the trunk, did you have to drill through the carpet? or is there some way to avoid this?

Depending on the size of the amp you could prob put it under the passanger seat. as for the false floor, easiest way to go about it is to pull out the spare tire out, dynamat the tire well and cut a bit of 18mm mdf that is just a little larger than the tire well itself with the sub whole cut out and silicone and screw down, now if you can fit a grill on the sub fine then you can now just put the carpet back on top as if nothing was there or you can trace around the boot space and make it in 2 pieces to make it easier, now this is the easiest way to do it for a beginner. without fibreglass or any framing or reinforcement

Yeah you pretty much have to drill into the floor unless you want to try and mount it with velcro etc (assuming you want it to the trunk) I could've shown you how mine is set up today since I parked next to you. haha.

you dont HAVE to drill into the chasis. just glue(not superglue but some kind of industrial/metal adhesive) small blocks of mdf onto the chasis.. they'll act as supports. then drill another mdf frame/base into them.

there is nothing wrong with drilling into the body of the car, ur gonna need to for the amp ground, and dont u dare think about going under a seat bolt, u need bare metal contact.

lol thanks for the responses guys, but i was thinking more of building up from the trunk floor, not sinking down into the spare tyre compartment. but more of what tips im asking for, is how do you get the shape of the mdf to contour to the shape of the boot, like the sides? if its too hard, might just ditch the idea .. :(

just go with a sub box, for the shape you need to cut out bits of card that almost fit the edges then get a compass and do some tracing cuting tracing and so on, then comp to mdf and ur good

place sheets of paper or cardboard in your boot, transfer the contours onto it. then transfer that onto mdf - which will be the base/frame. remember its easier to cut off a little more than add back on.. ill assume you know what i mean by that.

still stand by the 'support blocks' idea.. they'll raise the height of the base/frame above the tyre and it fits in with you not wanting to drill into the chasis. then from there its a matter of your creativity..

kinda hard to put into words but what im picturing in my head is exactly what you're after.
