Just wondering if anyone knows the size of the B16A VtiR throttle body?
Is it larger than D16Y Vti throttle body?

yes, but i *think* it is 60mm vs 58mm in the D16...
teh early JDM B16A's were only 58mm too...
(can someone confirm EK VTiR is 60mm?)

58mm.......
you may look for JDM ITR 98 spec throttle body which is 67mm but you could bore it to 70mm

i think its 58mm.
and the JDM ITR is 67mm :)

no, only 1st gens were 58mm, the B16A2/3 are 60mm (i have just searched Honda-tech to confirm ;) )
also - 60mm TB was used on B16B, B18C and H22A (except B18CR = 62mm)
BTW - i also doubt that hte JDM ITR TB is 67mm

here is a pic - measure it :)
This is my old B16A2 - AUDM spec. maybe it is 60mm ;)

ok
looks 67mm to me.

hmmm, looks to me like it could have been bored out ;)
nice one :D
stock = 62mm
EDIT
sorry, yes - you ARE actually measuring the wrong side - take it off and measure the side that faces the intake manifold.
apparantly the ITR tb is tapered:

wait til she is tuned - drive over, and slap me, and i then can chase you all the way back, lol!
jords - sorry for the detour on your topic - i hope we have helped some :)

Is it possible to use the b16 TB on a D-series intake manifold?

Good question Win, thats what Im trying to find out. Peter from Hanny's told me that it should bolt straight on, however he wasn't 100% on the difference in diameter of the two throttle bodies, he thought the B16A could be around 60mm-62mm . We measured the D16 TB, and as mentioned above it was 58mm.
Thanks guys for your help I may attempt to change the TB.
By the way has anyone done this before or heard of someone that has? :D

from what i saw at honda-tech.com it doesnt bolt on to a D16A (ie not D16Y)... (but try anyways - not difficult to remove/attach)
you wont get too many gains from a larger throttle body unless you have already done some modifications that improve airflow.
however - it will make your throttle resoponse *seem* better simply because the intake opening will be larger for every given throttle cable input...

Is the b16a TB tappered?
If I can get hold of a b16a TB I might see if they bolt up.

Can be done. Same stud pattern - just use the bseries MAP sensor ontop - charcol breather pipe fits ok too....
Im in the slow process of finding a cheap b16a2 throttle body from some where Win too...

If you bolt a B16A2 or ITR TB to a D series engine, can you use the D series Map sensor? It shouldn't make a difference should it?
tinkerbell

yes, MAP sensor can be shared...

im confused with this.. d16y8 TB size = b16a TB size ....?

I think it would be easier and cheaper to bore your ur current throttle if your interested in the same affect as a b16a t/b would have. Do a p&p at the same time =]

tinkerbell, would one expect gains by boring an ITR TB to say 70mm from 62mm ?

it would depend on the amount of boost you want to run...

what does the top end of the power curve look like? does it flatten off?
larger tb helps only at high RPM, but can make substantial differences if it is matched correctly.
stock ITR tb probably too small, maybe 64 would be more appropriate?
the power is only as good as the weakest link ;)

I am running 70mm throttle body now. See this site!!

where did you get it bored out?
what size plate did you use for the butterfly?
tinkerbell
10-02-2005, 01:48 PM
also - how hard was it to port-match the intake manifold?
edw-R
10-02-2005, 02:03 PM
i didn't port intake manifold. The size of plate is the same. Just do inside of the throttle body. The throttle respond is better than before. Just $40 labour.
tinkerbell
10-02-2005, 02:05 PM
oh, OK, so it is not actually a larger throttle body.
i think Civic Type R is talking about using a bigger sized diameter throttle body to get more power, not just throttle response.
edw-R
10-02-2005, 02:22 PM
oic.....If stock internal, i think no need to change. If you change bigger throttle body, you need to change intake manifold as well.
tinkerbell
10-02-2005, 02:25 PM
i have heard of poeple boring the ITR intake manifold out too,
just wanted to know if/how you had done it...
the AEBS intake manifold is a better option when going with a larger TB for more top end power anyways... or the JG one if you have money to burn...

Y don't u consider 4 throttle bodies ??
