Ultra Racing 4 point rear strut bar install - EM1

Aim: Ultra Racing Rear 4-Point Strut Bar Installation. EM1

Read my front strut bar : DIY (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2418046#post2418046)

Required:

• 4 point rear stur bar to suit your application
• Socket wrench
• Long 14mm socket
• Drill
• Utility knife (sharp)
• Hacksaw

Steps:

1. Ensure before starting you boot is free from any loose objects, as you will be manoeuvring around in the boot quite a bit.

2. Using the utility knife cut a small hole in the area marked in the photo to expose your strut tower. Start with a small hole to look around, then slowly enlarge until its roughly 10 x 14cm. (remember you can always make a small hole larger but once its too big you kinda stuffed).

3. Using the long 14mm socket remove the two outside bolts on both left and right strut towers. Do not remove the middle bolt.

4. Once the 4 bolts have been removed place the strut bar in place. Use your knife to cut carpet around where the two lower bars touch the floor.

5. Trace around the feet of the lower bars onto the mdf board underneath the carpet.

6. Using a hacksaw now cut the traced area out of the mdf board.

7. Place the strut bar back in place and replace the bolts, tighten them until they are finger tight.

8. Using something sharp (sorry I forgot what this tool is called) make an indentation in the floor of your boot to mark out where to drill the holes. Now use a drill with a metal drill bit to make the holes for two lower points.

9. Now tighten up the bolts on the strut towers using the 14mm socket. Make sure these are nice and tight. Once the strut towers bolts are finished install the 4 supplied bolts for lower points.

10. Stand back and admire your new rear strut bar.

Yer I feels alot more solid. I just installed it today. I hit a few corners hard and it responded nicely. Should be heaps better once I figure out how to install the front properly.

good write up, it will be a hassle if you need to use the tools or the spare tire since you have the wood and that trim, unless customise the wood lol... but other than that good job.

Yer I feels alot more solid. I just installed it today. I hit a few corners hard and it responded nicely. Should be heaps better once I figure out how to install the front properly.

To install the front I did the following:

Jack up the front of the car onto stands or diy bricks etc.

Undo the bracket (cant remember what it is) on the fire wall, this is where the top part of the brace bolts up. (dummy fit and you will see what i mean)

Undo the 4 nuts on your suspension and allow the threads of the top mounts to drop slightly, gravity will do this as its on stands. This will allow you to move and adjust the bar around and line it up on the strut towers.

Then I tightened everything back up, lowered the car to the ground and then checked the tightness again. All up it took about a 30min.

Try that, Im sure that will help.

If you look at how I cut the wood. The floor still lifts up nicely with enough room to access spare wheel + jack & tools.

before you drill guys, CHECK WHATS UNDER THAT

COULD BE YOUR FUEL LINE or even some cables that goes under neath

Yer I haven't drilled those holes for the 2 lower point yet. I was a bit worried about that. But do you think Ultra Racing would design bars where the mounting points would intersect, fuel lines or something else that could have a negative affect?

might not, but its worth a try to checked it out. take 5 mins to get under the car. and have a look.

after you drill make sure you put some anti rust, or else rust will slowly develop under it.

just a heads up, with ultra racing front bars, you need a be a little rough to get the b45tard in... it's a tight fit... best a 2 man job...
