G'day guys,
I noticed there is some info about Civics up there, i just wanted to get some info on Gen II? CRX's (1990)
The one im looking at has the 1.6L DOHC engine, which i researched as having 96kw standard.
What i would like to know (which i cant find anywhere) is how much they weigh? Im thinking it must be around 950kg?
Any numbers to do with 1/4 or 0-100 would also be really appriciated.
Thanks guys!

Dependent on model as variances are acknowledged but I'm assuming you're implying the OZ-delivered non-vtec version...they weigh around 910kg with roughly 94kW...0-100 in the 8's & 1/4 ET in the 16-17's bracket...round there anyway...

i used to know a guy that dragged his crx like mad
put it on the gtech a few times nad he got 7.9 seconds
i know g'tech's are off but its pretty close.
Heres some links for info, Dont forget, these are all specs for the US models, their top model crx only has 108HP.. where'as we aussies get teh 130HP engines :D
http://www.crxsi.com/specs.htm
http://www.supercars.net/garages/Moonracer/169v2.html
http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Honda-Civic-CRX
integra Vti-R is
1175kg with 125kw = 1kw for 9.4kg
crx DOHC
910kg with 96kw = 1kw for 9.47kg
but then torque plays a huge part :(

arnt most of the ones we get in aus jap imports and that is why we get the extra hp? or did we get the ZC si from the start?
mytoycivic
03-12-2004, 04:30 PM
we did not get the ZC. the ZC was a jap/US engine in the CRX/civic Si's. in australia we got the D16a8. same engine, just diff ECU and diff power specs

How do you tell whats a normal CRX and whats an Si?
or are all the Australian Dilvered DOHC CRX's the si?
No he was refering to the CRX having a similar engine to the EG Civic Si
Which is a 1.6 Ltr DOHC NON VTEC
You cant find any other engine in the gen2 besides the ZC/D16A
Unless you find a SIR import with a B16a or one with a engine conversion to a b16/b18
Stabo

yeh but on many of those sites it has:
CRX
CRX Si
CRX SiR
etc etc
and there are difference in the power between CRX and CRX Si.
Im wondering what a normal Australian delivered 1990 CRX would be? Si? or just Standard CRX?
Mr. Focus
06-12-2004, 01:42 PM
the power difference is only about 5-10kw's unless you hve the SiR which has a b16a. the d16a8 and the zc are very minimal in power difference. also check www.crxaustralia.com for info
also chi, my mate just bought a gen 2 with a d15 dual carby engine!

yeah thre are some shitty 'style s-II' gen2's that came out as a budget version kinda thing, honda unloaded some of their old carby engines in them
is it like this focus? (yes thats me taking the pic and my crx in the reflection :D)

74 would be more accurate.
panda[cRx]

more like 74hp if its carby i reckon
I dont think a 1.5 carby would make 74 kws, more like 50-60 kw area.
So i would assume its 74 HP.
Anyways never seen a gen 2 carby before.
Always learn somehtign new.

Carby model uses a
D15B Carby, 105HP @ 6500RPM Rev limiter is 7400rpm
so more like 74kw
you maybe right burnography, Ive seen a 1.5 carby dynoed stock with pod ,zorst etc at around 40-45 kws ATWs.

lol Mike down here has a carby crx ... and it kept with kiets d16a8 crx up until 4th gear... but neither could keep with the b16a crx :D
there is that many variations in gen2 crx's that if we were to talk about them all this would end up being a 20page thread.

So its pretty safe to say it'll have a D16A engine...
Are there any turbo kits for these kicking around? lol
Ones that dont require any engine changes (I guess it would have to be fairly low psi)
if so, what are the parts worth? someone mentioned Greedy does a kit?
MoonSha
07-12-2004, 04:40 PM
As correct as "greedy" might be their called Greddy :P
I know there is ebay kits, but who knows what quality they are, and I'm pretty sure Greddy and some other companies make kits that fit too. Alot of people seem to DIY the turbo setup with bits from all over the shop, there is a few people you could talk to about it but I'm not sure who. Somebody who frequents this forum more often could undoubtebly fill you in.

Apart from not having vtec there's nothing much wrong with the dual carby CRX. I've driven a 1.5x JDM CRX for a couple of years and it handles so good. With its lower weight then the other models doesn't lose out in a straight line by much.

that i am mytoycivic. i'm finding it quite a task tho. Most parts i'm after will have to be custom made as we dont carry kits in oz. The US guys have quite a few different kits for d-series engines and most are compatible with the d16a8.
also chat to weq and lyle_style as they both have boosted d's! you might wanna check out www.turbod16.com or www.d-series.org too. these guys are a great help!

08-12-2004, 12:54 PM
do you reckon $2K would cover all the parts for a fairly standard rig?
SINISTR
08-12-2004, 01:49 PM
Stabo,
just to answer your Q in regards to the models in Australia:
all CRXs delivered to australia and licensed in australia are what we call the 'Si' (sports injected) - came with a D16A8
in Japan they also had the Si and the SiR - Si being the ZC and SiR being the B16A - there were also other variations like Dual Carby, glass roof, VT which sported a 1.5L injected motor but had leather interior throughout - like a delux
version.
In the US however they got even more options... what they call the DXs, Sis and a bunch of others - all mixed with various engines, various aditions etc etc.
So in Australia if its an Ausie Complied car that you are looking at it will be an Si with a D16A8.
Hope that helps
Mr. Focus
08-12-2004, 01:49 PM
hmmm. depending on the ECU you get (anywhere between $600-2k) then FMIC (new $1k-2k) and dump pipes are around $200. u'll need a budget of around 5k though to get all the gear plus getting it installed and tuned
Stabo
08-12-2004, 01:54 PM
SINISTR, cheers for that :D
Mr. Focus, I might be able to get the labour done for free, (which i know will be a huge saving) so taking out the labour costs is around $2K a fair esitmate?
Cheers for all the info guys!

um i wouldnt go the turbo off ebay. it doesnt even give you a brand name of the turbo. just a warning. never buy performance parts from ebay unless you get to see the product first.
;)
Stabo
08-12-2004, 03:39 PM
haha yeh i dont intend to just go out and buy something like that off ebay ;)
Im just after a rought estimate for parts so i know wether to consider doing it or not.
Thanks!

With free labour I think your still looking at over 4k, say you get all the parts for 3.5, you gotta allow a margin of error, things will always go wrong.
mytoycivic
08-12-2004, 07:41 PM
and things will always blow out, even if they go right
:D
Mr. Focus

thats true. PM weq, he's got his d boosted. he can tell ya more about what it will actually cost, things to look out for etc.
