Hello guys, K.j here.

I've got a 98 EK1 Civic (candy apple red) if you guys may have seen it :)

Theres still alot to do internally, but due to lack of funds, and the fact that it is a street and daily driven car, I've decided to go with the cosmetics first.

So my plans are:

keep current candy red colour.
purchase a new bonnet and colour code it candy red (to replace the previous owner's fake cb hood ..)
spray paint my ssr type c replicas to bright gold, with candy red lugnuts (leaving a chrome lip finish)
colour code my honda access rear lip from black to the candy red.

Ok, so ultimately, I just want to get it down straight. My friend says "wow thats the USDM look!" but is it really?

what is the difference between the JDM look and the USDM look?

I know the JDM look consists of the clean colour coded look to the panda look (black hood, front/rear lips, etc.)

but how is the USDM look percieved as?

Apparently, not saying it is true, that after the fast and the furious scene in the US, they then found about the clean and simple JDM look, and therefore they couldnt afford to go back to stock colour so they change the wheels and other stuff to have the JDM look with a custom paint job = USDM look apparently.

Please do not flame me, I am just very curious, and i also just want to get people's opinions about my cosmetic changes :)

I strive to look different, and I was fortunate enough to purchase the car already sprayed candy red. I wish to continue with this look, and find colour combinations to suit it. I find that gold rims looks really good with it :)

Thanks guys to the people who have the patience in reading this. I really appriciate any feedback from this thread. Thank you again.

Kj.

Imo (and only my opinion)

jdm = stock/simple looking (parts from japan of course...)

usdm = more of a retro look. sometimes a brighter car colour, sticker flooded car parts etc etc

Oh yeah thats what i sorta pictured it to be.

But is my look that I am going for .. described as a USDM look?

What do you think about both looks anyway?

thank you for you reply :)

jdm = racing style lightweight rims, most likely be black red yellow white colored cars.

usdm= low offset rims that have big dishes. slam on its **** and scrapes everywer u go. paint colors are more variety then jdm.

thats wat i see.

jdm = stock look, clean, simple, doesnt look fast but usual is with juicy jdm parts

usdm = aftermarket body kits, fat wheels, camber wheels, colorful, looks fast but really isnt :)

WOW!

thanks everyone to their contribution to this topic!

hmm now I see why people would go for more the JDM look

since I reckon since my car is candy red .. it is more than likely that a cop will look at it and be more suspicious :P

but if thats what it takes to be different, then it shall happen!

so I am going to have my clean candy apple red look with gold rims (chrome lip NO STRETCHED TIRES .. lol defect hard :P) and candy red lug nuts.

I just want to get people's opinion on how that will look :)

thanks guys for the contribution :D

Has anyone that's posted here actually been to Japan and seen with their eyes what the cars look like?

i still dont understand the whole concept of jdm yo!.... so basically its copying what the Japanese ppl are doin right? So if the japs where to do what usa does, would u still call it jdm? having light weight rims, an that doesnt mean its jdm, havin carbon bits isnt jdm...

theres a good reason they have expensive light weight rims, there cars are purposeful, theres a reason as to why they do it, not to set trends, i guess many ppl look past this an just say JDM YO!!!!! cause its got stuff made in japan, or was built in japan, there fore it must be JDM!!!

Haha nice concept pretty much well said people often define JDM as USDM and vice versa but in the end any Honda is classed JDM its how it gets modified which changes it's appearance.

If you were to go to a shop of people who know cars they will prob say your car is JDM as fk :D even if It had USDM mods all in all both Style look sweet

haha no worries man, its good to see people who go through the same deal :) lol I really need a clean hood though, because this fake cb hood that the previous owner has installed, has cracks where the bonnet pins are, and its such a hassle opening and closing my hood since its really crap. But yes I will pm quite soon about where you get your stuff installed!

lol thanks guys for your input! but IMO, I think its more about origin, how you can distinctively tell the way cars have been modified in certain areas of the world which has been labelled as either jdm styled or usdm styled. :) lol but I intend to keep my car looking clean, yet "USDM styled". Has anyone else here in the Sydney is following on the USDM sorta look?

yeah its a bit all over the place - for example my car is a mix of both lol

i started out 100% JDM but as i got older the USDM scene has evolved and i am starting to really like the style

personally i think you should do what YOU want to do with your car - its your own artwork and you hold the paint brush

I agree! thanks for that, yeah the USDM scene is starting to look bright!

like .. JDM styled look has been done, and it is quite limited IN COMPARISON to the USDM look.

I love both looks EQUALLY! but if unique is what a person wants, then USDM :)

btw, are there any USDM stickers? i know theres learner and older JDM stickers, but are there any USDM ones? that would be pretty cool :)

Yeah, stock.

USDM just has some different lights, bagdes and sometimes bumpers compared to the equivalent JDM model. Domestic Model means just that, factory parts limited to the domestic market.

Everything posted so far such as hellaflush, carbon bonnets, blue HIDs and all that rubbish is just rice people think are JDM or USDM.

well yes JDM means domestic market - which originally refers to original parts

but now JDM and USDM have come to refer to styles pertaining to the market of origin - for example the market or origin for spoon and mugen is JDM
the market of origin for skunk2 is USDM
