With less than month to go until the YOKOHAMA ADVAN World Time Attack Challenge (WTAC) 2011, we are getting very excited. WTAC will be held on Friday 5th- 6th with Eastern Creek Raceway, once again playing host to the World's biggest time attack event.
The Pro Class is shaping up to be just as, if not bigger than last year with the Cyber Evo returning (being shipped as we speak) to defend its title as outright fastest.
All the named cars have been subject to hundreds more hours of testing and tuning in hope of faster lap times.
How much more competitive will WTAC 2011 be? Here is a recap of all the so far named cars competing.
There are still challengers yet to be named so check regularly for updates
Pan Speed Mazda RX7

Rotary fans rejoice as the Pan Speed RX7 returns to Eastern Creek for WTAC 2011 much to our ears delight. Despite many setbacks they managed still managed an impressive 1:32:4540. With one more years testing, a new Holinger gearbox and a power upgrade we are expecting them to break into the 31’s. It seems we haven’t yet seen the best from team Pan Speed.

Scorch Racing S15
http://advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/scorch-banner.219.jpg
There is no question Suzuki-san is the underdog. The S15 is a car built by himself and driven by himself, and lastly and most importantly… there is every damn chance this car could win OUTRIGHT! You see there are no wind tunnels, extensive engine development programs or seasoned Super GT drivers in this team. There is simply one very determined man with a dream, and his buddies who have quietly tinkered away late into the night on the outskirts of Tokyo and produced a car that well, to be honest, almost makes a mockery of some much more exotic machinery. This car is another that has undergone quite an extensive rebuild prior to coming down under for the World Time Attack Challenge

Hankook Carbon WRX
http://advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/hero-banner-carbon.230.jpg
Ben Creswick has built this highly-modified carbon-fibre bodied Subaru WRX, featuring a fully sequential transmission and 2.5-litre turbo-charged flat-four ‘boxer’ engine. The Hankook Carbon WRX, piloted by a high-profile professional driver, will target the current WTAC lap record, set by driver Tarzan Yamada and Japanese team CyberEvo to win the 2010 event. Limited testing of the Hankook Carbon WRX at Wakefield Park Raceway has seen the car set an easy 1:01.9. Further development to the engine, transmission, suspension and aerodynamics should see that time improve markedly before the August event.

The car will also be using a much wider track and if all goes to plan should be running on the yet to be released soft Yokohama Advan 295/35/18 AO 50 tyres. The car has also undergone a revised aero package and will certainly be aiming to be a lot closer to the pointy end of the field in 2011. Tilton Interiors Evo 9
http://www.worldtimeattack.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Tilton-Evo-567x376.jpg
he new Tilton Interiors Evo 9 Pro Class entry of Kostinken Pohorukov. This team has long been a force to be reckoned with in Australian time attack racing and has competed in every single Superlap event with a Pro Class victory to their name in 2009 at the final Oran Park event. The engine is a complete Cosworth deal set up and tuned by Insight Motorsport who has had a large hand in much of the build. A PPG dog gearbox and V8 Supercar spec brakes also look menacing behind the fat Rays wheels that will be wrapped in Yokohamas finest new 295 AO50s. The car also has some trick new aero that we “were not allowed to see yet” and is something the team believe will be a big advantage in their campaign.
Sierra Sierra Enterprises Evo 8
http://www.advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/sierra-sierra.32.jpg
With a very strong showing in 2010 and a second place just behind the Cyber Evo, this team have certainly made their intentions very clear for 2011. They are a very experienced team and with another year of development under their belt are certain to be a force to be reckoned with in August at Eastern Creek. The 4G63 engine has seen a fair increase in power since we last saw it in May 2010, having switched to the new BorgWarner EFR Performance Series turbocharger, E85 fuel and is still in a state of constant development from Eric Hsu and the team at Cosworth USA. The results of this have been obvious as this team has been busy resetting their own records with a time of 1:41.046 recorded at Buttonwillow at the end of 2010.

GT Autogarage HKS R35 GTR
http://advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/hksr35.292.jpg
Superlap Australia has been in talks with HKS Japan since late last year regarding the possibility of them competing in WTAC 2011 in particular the possibility of the CT230R coming to Australia. Their previous test mule for their range of products has been turned into a full blown time attack car capable of taking on the world. The GTR includes secret parts that the Japanese tuning company had in development but are not available to the public as yet. The GTR has been on a strict carbon fibre diet and even though the team won’t reveal its true weight, it is evident that the HKS GTR is but a fraction of its obese former self.

Garage Revolution RX7
http://advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/revolution-hero.235.jpg
The question on everyone’s lips since they laid down the sizzling lap time at Tsukuba in December is “Is Garage Revolution bringing the RX7 to World Time Attack?” And the answer is most certainly YES! The sizzling time we are referring to is a time of 53.673, which puts this car within one tenth of the HKS CT230R record time of 53.589 set by Nob Tanaguchi in 2007 and making this now by far the fastest time attack RX7 in Japan and probably the world. This car has been in a state of constant development since it debuted in 2008 at Tsukuba and has continued to improve with many changes to the aero package and the 13B twin rotor engine now sporting a specially constructed GCG turbo giving more power and response coupled to a Hewland sequential 6 speed gearbox and dinner plate sized Project Mu brakes all round.

Notaras Motorsport Evo 8
http://advanwheels.com.au/media/v4/notaras.45.jpg
After a drama filled 2010 World Time Attack event where the Notaras Motorsport Evo only made a few laps with V8 Supercar driver Steve Owen the team will be returning in 2011 with a much more refined weapon. They now have a dry sump on the engine and further improvements to the aero and horsepower and look forward to hitting the Eastern Creek circuit with a vengeance. This year they will employ the services of rally ace and fellow Canberra resident Rick Bates to handle the wheel work. Notoras helped the Cyber Evo guys when they had a terminal engine failure on the practice day and destroyed their cylinder head. They supplied the Cyber team with their spare head and to be honest had this not have happened, the 2010 results would have read totally different and the Cyber team were so happy with the help they got – they plastered the door with a Notaras decal!
