Hi guys,
went to local locksmiths this morning to try to get the key cut, but they could not do it as they said my original key has a chip in it. i need to go to Honda to get it done.
as far as i can see my key it's look like a normal key, not a keyless entry, no remote, it's has black case shell with Honda logo on top of the blade key.
i wanted them to cut from the code (as i do have the red key) not to copy from the original key.
so, do i really have to go to Honda to get another key cut? or should i try a better key cutting place else where?
Cheers
edited: by the way, my local locksmiths said they can cut the key for me but i won't be able to start my car, only to open the door. but i want it to be able to start the car too

Go to another lock smith, not all locksmiths can copy chipped keys.. you dont need to go to honda, unless you want an original honda key.
usually 60 - 100 bucks
if you lose your only set it will cost your more and cause you much more headaches.

1. Do u see a red key light in the cluster when u have your key out??
2. Is your key the original oem key with the black H end cover?
If so then your EK is equipped with the immobilizer which means the key has the chip.
This is the reason why most locksmith wont copy it, even if they did you can only use it to open doors/boot lid.
You wont be able to use it to drive your car for more than 100meters before shutting down (if it was a fuel cutoff) or you wont be able to start the car at all (if it was a starter kill).
Your other option would be to buy a oem honda uncut key from ebay, then get the locksmith to copy it then go to honda to program that new key (unless you know how to program the new key).
Take photo of ur key and upload yo

he already took it to the locksmith. the lock smith would of had a little device that detects the transponder in the key. plus he has a red key...

any of them or to be safe just bring both if you have it.
i never got the plain key nor the red hey - all i got is two black keys both having chips in it.
did you search to see if anyone knows how to code new oem honda chipped keys? - ive seen it somewhere before and it has been done other than the honda dealers - there is just sequences and jumpering involved.

as long as you can see the key or lock symbol flashing in your cluster when the key is out - then yes you will have the factory immobilizer with the chipped key.

if you go to the locksmith for a 'copy' just bring your black key.
the red key is if you want to make a new set of coded keys for your car. do this way if your paranoid someone out there has or found a copy of your chipped key.

I think only the 98+ models have it. I got em1 and I got my keys copied by one those key booths in the middle of shopping malls. It cost me $100 for 1 key. It's not oem honda key but it works fine...

Guess I was educated, 96+ have them. Well anyway, copying the key with the transponder shouldn't cost more then $100 n it shouldn't b that hard to find a place that does it, try the small key booths in the shopping centres...
