View Full Version : d16y4 aftermarket cam?

So, I feel like being a little silly with my d16, so I can have some fun whilst I build up the 1g (yes, I'm saving up for it, calm your mammaries)

Is it possible to get a lumpy cam for the d16y4? Looking for a little power boost, and also some lump. Would it be possible? Or would I be better off getting the cam ground?
And, would that be doable on stock ecu?

I realise it'd be better to either turbo it, or just invest in a better engine, but thought it might be interesting

Sorry to correct - but your motor is a single CAM so you mean "aftermarket cam.."

Now that is out of the way - look at dseries.org to get started on SOHC D series can selection. Not doable on a standard ecu - look at chrome or Neptune

Also look up what money and research bisimoto has put into D's to blow your mind. And out you totally off lol

oop, sorry, keep slapping the 's' on the end from habit. My bad

Ah mad, found a good place to start. Sorry, was having no luck finding any leads, until you mentioned bisimoto, which seems to be a good place. Another post on here from a while ago mentions some things:

Hmm. Sounds like there isn't anything I can slap in that won't require modding of the head all up, and an ecu. Perhaps a minor grind could aid things a bit, but not need a tune or springs and all that?

You come off it

Built d16y4 would be interesting. I can't justify spending tonnes on a single cam for some reason

....only to be as fast as a standard b16a powered civic

The problem is - you won't have any result until you spend BIG and turn it into a track only SOHC hi comp weapon.
There isn't fast SOHC's because it represents very poor value for $

That's true.
But not looking for anything too major. Just something small to give a tiny bit more kick or something small to aid the fun.

Will probably b20 swap it later, but 1g is priority for that. Pretty much got the daily where i want it (bar scraping heaps now. Might need coils with damper adjust to stop that) but lumpier cams would be fun though. Probably better if i leave it stock though, haha. Better on fuel that way.

Still, wouldn't mind getting the head cleaned (mostly to get rid of that sludge), shaved, valves done, cam ground, ports polished, etc.
Although wouldn't want it to need a massive retune or a new ecu

Slapping that in the 1g within the next few months hopefully.

To be fair, the daily is my track hack in the meantime. Keeps me entertained/ sane in the meanwhiles.
Have some wheels for drifts. See if i can't do the sideways thing

not worth the $$ and time to put a cam into a standard Y4, money can be better spent on the 1g i.e bigger brakes

Fair call.
Will just keep throwing money at the funds to get the engineering thing to see whether i need newer suspension other than coilovers and vti-r brakes
