As the 2015 MotoGP™ season approaches its final few races, competitors for motorcycling’s World Championship heads to the Far East for one of the year’s most popular events – the Motul Grand Prix of Japan. Round 15 of the 18-race championship takes place on 11 October at Twin Ring Motegi, which is situated approximately 150 km north of Tokyo.
One of three 2015 MotoGP races fully supported by Motul (alongside TT Assen and the final round of the season in Valencia), this will be the second year of the partnership between the international lubricant specialist and the Grand Prix of Japan. Last year was a huge success and marked the moment that Honda’s Marc Marquez claimed the 2014 championship crown.
The links between Motul, Japan, and its motorcycle and automotive constructors are long, strong and unbroken, and the Japanese round provides the perfect backdrop for Motul to showcase its range of road and racing products to competitors and consumers alike. Signage and banners bearing the French-headquartered multi-national’s iconic red and white colours will be seen around the track, as with 2014.
Motul will once again be providing full technical support for a number of teams including three factory OEMs: Yamaha Tech3, Forward Racing Yamaha, Aprilia Racing and the Suzuki Factory team. Among the Motul teams, Yamaha Tech3’s Bradley Smith shone in the recent race at Misano, finishing on the 2nd step of the podium, and more great results are surely yet to come from the Briton and all the others riders representing these teams.
Motul works in close collaboration with the OEMs to develop high-performance, experimental lubricants that respond directly to the extreme conditions of use put upon them by the high-tech prototype bikes used in MotoGP. Specific areas addressed are, for example, dry clutches, separated or integrated gearboxes, and engines that perform up to 355 km/h at 18,000 revs per minute. The development of Motul’s 300V range from its Factory Line has directly benefited from the knowledge and experience gained in competition such as MotoGP.
