Just wondeting if anyone has tightened the clamps on the CV boots without using the special tool?

I reckon I could get it tight with a home made support and a cotter pin but I'm wondering if anyone else has other methods that could be useful?

I'm not a cheap skate on the tool, just can't get to the shops before the weekend

i've used needle nose plyers in the past, wrapped it around then folded it over

I managed to get a tool on my way home, very happy I got it. I would have struggled big time with out it. I dont understand why you can't just put a standard hose clamp on. Got so many special tools now

^ probably more to do with balance and potential damage to the boot from overtightening

another hint

after you have the boot nice n tight

Run a smear of ultra grey or similar gasket seal around the edge of the boot to joint area. This helps aftermarket boots or crap ties hold the boot on

Good tip thank you!

Just went through changing the clutch for the weekend, its the first time ive ever removed the gear box. I was very careful to do it right, went to start the car and it just wont start.
Apparently the flywheel has to line up with a point on the crank shaft, checked the book and its there telling you to line it up in one sentence with no picture.
So upset i missed it, have to drop the box again......... lol good lesson learnt.

didn't think the flywheel was keyed? does it crank at all?

I dont think it is keyed, it has some holes that are supposed to line up maybe.
Im not 100% sure but i googled why people had problems starting their car after changing the clutch and it comes up with heaps of results of people not lining the flywheel up with the crank shaft.
Its supposed to have something to do with the timing, theres a sensor that picks up if the flywheel is aligned.

Not sure what else could be wrong, ive put everything back properly, i tried to be very thorough.

it does crank, sounds like its going to start but just doesnt. It does sound like i would expect it to sound with a timing problem.

Sounds like you might need to retard the timing manually ( loosen dizzy , rotate back towards the firewall) to get it to kick. This can happen if you took off the dizzy to remove the box and then just plopped it on at any old angle.

Make sure when removing the dizzy to mark its original angle so you can place it on easily

I didnt remove the dizzy, i dropped the box from the bottom.
I turned the crank with a ratchet and it turned fine, ran a compression test and it is fine which means the starter motor is turning the engine.
So the starter motor and wiring i think are all ok, i would say ive misaligned the flywheel unfortunately....

The flywheel doesn't need to be aligned to any sensor. It can only go on according to the bolts that hold it.
Something else is wrong.

So it turns over but doesn't start ? Have you tested for any ecu codes ?
I feel you have left something out / loose or swapped it incorrectly

The sentence in the manual says 'ALign the hole in the flywheel with the crank shaft dowel pin' but this picture is what i would expect to see on the crank which it didnt have:
29841

And this is my stock flywheel that i have out of the car, theres no hole for a dowel pin.... So have i really misaligned it? Is it possible on a b18c7? THhe manual i got is for a b18c5
29842

I havent tested the ecu, ill have to do that.
I must have done something else wrong, thanks bennjamin, ill look over everything carefully

yeah if you missed a dowel pin you'd know since you wouldn't be able to bolt it up properly
my vote is a missed sensor plug of sorts

Must be a plug somewhere, does anyone know where the 2 wires are that you have to bridge to do an ecu test on a pP73 ecu, i think its an OBD-2 with 3 big connectors in it.
Bennjamin you might know? I read your DIY ecu test but my wires arent 2 in a connector on their own.

never mind, i found it.
I got code 61 and 81 on the ABS light

So i found the codes, erased them and while i was trying to restart the car it started but struggled, sounded rough and it died pretty quick.
Think its timing?
