Not too well verse with Alpine products but my advice would be go into a shop who deals with Alpine,

check out the speakers. What to look out for:

-The weight of the speaker (magnet)

-Feel the outer cone of the speaker to see the material (stronger the better)

-Just observe the tweeter and the quality of the build of the speaker.

IMO, a 2 way speaker will always sound better than a 3 way (my opinion though)

thanks J-MuN for your advise. dont know where can i listen to them. ATM i m checking them only on eBay.

American sellers are selling them almost on half price as compare to Australian, which is very tempting :D

If you lived eastside you could check them out at Central Car Audio in Moorabbin....

Definantly go 2-way cos you'll get more depth. I used to have the SPR-69LB in one of me previous cars, they're OK but there is better for cheaper. Also why 6x9's? No plans of a sub?

thanks IRI for your response. will try them on Central Car Audio.

have to carry a big pram in my car boot, so no space to put sub there, lol.

reason why i m going to upgrade is that my current OEM rear speakers are ok, if i listen to them in standing car with closed windows. but when on freeway and try to turn to volume little up (with closed windows) those OEM rear give all kind of squeeqy sounds and sound like they cant handle sound any more.

here i m not talking about very high volume, actualy less than half of total volume.

dont wanna spend too much $$$ too, thats why i was looking for nice branded rear speakers which can produce descent sound on drive.

Reason I ask cos if you were gonna get a sub I wouldnt get 6x9's but splits in the back as well.

I definantly go for 2-ways.... but your head may not have enough oomph to power the the alpine type r's 45Wx4 equals around ~13WRMS. Might be better to go for spaekers with higher effeciency and less RMS power.

Edit: this is probably too much information..... just buy the Type R's:D

I'd say buy the typeRs considering you have no sub the spr range of speakers from alpine will provide much better bass than the sps but becareful with them as IRI said your head unit may not be powerful enough to run them and at high volume will cause distortion and could lead to "!!BOOM!!" a blown typeR 6x9

since you can't get a sub due to the kids factor then buy an amp for all four speakers.

as my front pioneer are 2-way as well. how would be vocals (mid range) without using a 3-way on rear.

only reason why i m considering 3-way, as i read that it improves VOCALS.

heared Alpine Type R are very nice and better for BASS as compare to their TYPE S.

Type R is the class above the Type S so yes it would be nicer

Do they have to be Alpine? The reason I ask is that while Alpine speakers are very well designed and constructed, I (and a serious % of audiophiles) find Alpine speakers to sound a little weak and artificial. Now bare in mind this has nothing to do with actual sound quality; this is all about having your speakers sounding as close to the real instrument / voice as possible. Alpine speakers just don't seem to possess the natural sounding hard hitting attack that many people desire from their system.

I would instead suggest (and it is only my humble suggestion) something like Focal, Hertz, Boston, PG, Morel, Diamond, Crossfire etc

What is your budget BTW? I can suggest some part numbers if you wish?

i m getting Alpine

SPS-690A for $110 delivered
or
SPR-69LP for $160 delivered

from eBay (an american power seller).

my budget is not more than $200 atm for rear speakers. actualy trying my best to get best possible for cheaper price , lol (nothing wrong with that thinking ><)

pls advise if you have anyother brand or part number in your mind.

i guess it depends on what u like and wat u want.....coz if ur gonna get subbies say 15inches...u prolli wonna get quality smaller speakers for the mid and higher freq...or if u want bass without spending money on a sub get like 7x10's or i guess the alpine 2 ways....honestly dont know which alpine is better coz never came across them but i was gonna run a sub until i find my 7x10 kenwoods and they have sufficient bass for me atm so yerr...just some food for thought i guess...

gL..btw no idea whether it is open to public or not but theres a alpine 'office/warehouse' thing in keysborough nr cnr of springvale road and cheltenham

highly disappointed with Honda today. On rear they have space for 6X9 speakers, but what they did put only 6 inch round real shit quality speakers.

this is unreal mate.

metal base plate for rear speakers can accomodate 6x9 but it has only round 6 inch speaker hole.

can someone gimme idea from where i can adjust (cut) this plate to put my new 6x9 speakers, thanks.

chameleon

I dont know how to mod the plate, but i hear 6 inch speakers give better sound, maybe you should go for the SPR-17LP. cheaper too.
I'll but you 6x9 :)

i'm assuming your car is an accord from your avatar... have you looked at getting a pod so you can fit the 6x9? It's illegal to cut the metal plate parcel shelf?

MIRZ
24-07-2005, 08:37 PM
what i did basicaly i used a hardboard from Bunnings and cut that exactly in size and shape of metal plate, then i cut 6x9 hole in middle of that hardboard.

now my new speakers are fitted in that hard board on same location on rear. removed whole metal plates with old speakers. will keep them till decide to sell my car.

those old speakers are just crap. not worth anything except says MADE IN USA, lol
