View Full Version : Diy: Dc5 Type S Hid Installation

I've follow the guide post by ECU-MAN (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25660&highlight=HID) and did the same to my 05 DC5 Type S.
Most of guide here taken from ECU-MAN + slight change and extras.

X-Clip can be purchase from HONDA dealership. Part No. 33116-S6M-003
Cost me $19.95 each.
You'll need to modify this to fit the HID tight in the housing. See Picture

Step 1:
Remove the bumper bar, the red arrows piont to screws that need to be removed, the blue arrows point to clips that need to be removed. To remove these clips lift the center part then pop out the clip.

Then just pull out the bumper.

Step 2:
Remove head lamp assembly, remove 4 nuts using 10mm socket, see PINK circle below, disconnect all lamps.

I couldn't reach the nut circled in green, but if you can, remove it instead of the Pink circle one.

Step 3:
Mount the HID ballast, undo the bolt from the gaurd, mount the ballast.
This is where I mount the ballast due to the size of it.

If you have a smaller ballast, you can just mount it right under the head lamp assembly. Use 3M Scotch Exterior Mounting Tape (SUPER STRONG HOLD) won't need any screw, once you stick on very hard to take off.

Step 4:
Install the HID globe.
As you can see I'm not using the X-Clip anymore. I spent 1 hour trying to make it look like the picture shown on the top, but its too hard for me with out right tools. I found a clip thing look like the X-Clip in my previous HID kit box and it fit just right, nice and tight. So if any of you want to buy my X-Clips for $20, drop me a PM.
Make sure it sealed nicely, so the water won't go in.

Step 5:
Do the same for the other side then make sure everything is working before put things back together.
Then install your head lamps and bumper in the revers order you removed them.

Now here is some picture I took tonight with 2 of my best friends. Compare different brand HIDs.
STI using 88 House 6000K (Made in Japan)
My TYPE S using Techone 6000K (Made in China)
SUPRA TURBO using McCulloh 10,000K (Made in USA)

i just got the same techone kit fitted on my legend last week im very happy with them indeed.

hey, how do you know which one is positive and negative???????

test light will also work if your trying to test the polarity.

congrats... you're now blinding all of oncoming traffic, running a color that's reducing light, and running a low quality kit that will need replacement way too soon.


If you want hids that perform like they came oem on the car, last as long, and look right, this is not the way to do it.

also note that plugging the ballasts directly into the wiring will cause issues with time. Hid's, while normally pulling less current during use, have a big current spike during ignition. Your stock wires are not designed to handle this, and with time, you'll start having issues with the hids not lighting from imporper power supply, possibly melting wires, and commonly doing damage to the stock headlight switch(something that's very expensive to replace generally).

Power for an hid set up should always be done with a relayed wiring harness with its own fuses, and pulling power for the lights directly from the battery. The stock wiring should be used for nothing more than a signal to trigger the relays.

Hey man,

I bought my HID kit and it came with a Relay wiring harness. The manual doesn't really explain the install. Any way you can show me how to do install???

It's a H1 kit for a honda prelude. There's some connectors and i think what is a ground wire and a power wire. Don't know how to plug this in.

Some help anyone????

basically the relays are generally a 4 prong relay. 12v signal(would be going from your stock headlamp signal wire), a 12v+(power from battery), ground, and 12v out(to the ballast).

the 12v signal and ground are on one circut, the 12v+ and 12v out are on the other.


Can't really help you out much more than that without more info.

From what I gathered, there are some cars that have support of aftermarket head lights that come with the projector which is good for a HID kit.

In others which don't (like mine - 98' prelude) you'll can just fit them in, but you wont get as much of a spread of light of a decent cut off compared to the Euros for example.

But, you can always customise your stock headlight and install a projector from a donar car. Some have been quite successfull with this.

it requires a projector in the headlight if you want any sort of decent light output, want high quality components that will last and work well, and don't want to blind on coming traffic


if you don't care about making it unsafe for other drivers on the road, don't mind very low quality parts on your car, and just want to say you have hid's, you can put them in the stock headlights

99% of the aftermarket projector headlights out there are horrible for hid use. The projectors are completely worthless on them for any sort of light output.

Nice writeup :D

Are the xclips necessary to hold the globes in? Don't they fit like normal halogen globes?

I know in other cars clips aren't needed. Is it just DC5?

I got hid;s in my car julie. i didnt use xclips... im not even using any clip... u know how u have that metla wire thing that locks into place behind the x clip.... instead of the x clip, i put foam there, so the wire wraps n locks in n is a snug fit with the foam behind the bulb.. fits eprfectly mand works a treat. Also u have to take off bumper AND headlight so yeah be prepared. Have u gotten ur hid;s yet julie? what brightness r u looking at?

thanks for the DIY nice thread! just wondering... i've done my car and seems like we're both missing the white piece on the middle of this car.

let me know if you took it off, or bought the car without one line mines.
