the d16a whatever that was in the Australian delivered CRX's is 96kw. For all those sort of stats including kerb weight etc goto civic4g.com . I'm also a member of crxaustralia.com and they regularly go for between 5k and 11k depending on the car and the mods on there, I think there is a stocky on there atm for $6500 so you can do better than $8490. Go and join and have a look.

Yep - there is actually one for $5000 there from memory as well with only 96000kms on it.

mr.Focus - im pretty sure it would be fun to drive a car like that...

but still - even if it a bucket of bolts and nuts ... still good to get to know your car :)

Make sure you check the road safety side of it tho...

My insurance company says that my 89 crx's market value is $7500 - this is quite a bit higher than www.redbook.com.au (http://www.redbook.com.au/)

If you have any enquiries as to the price of any other honda's they will be in there.

BTW my car has 215 XXX k's on it, and that's a fair average for a crx, this I know from asking other owners. Good luck with buying!!

Oh and when I bought it I flew down to Newcastle from Brissie, and drove home, the headunit shit itself 1hr in so I became acquainted with nice hum of engine for the next 8hrs

If you are going to buy a Gen 2 Crx then do not buy the Australian model with the D16a8 engine.

I know SO many people that are at a point where the engine and gearbox has done 200,000+ and there gearboxes need to be replaced. This happened to me and it cost $1800 to fix.

So buy an imported siR Crx. They come with the far more powerful B16a motor and stronger gearbox. They have also done less k's and are less worn out.

Value for money anyday.

Or buy a Australian model Crx which has had a B16a transplant. It'll save you money in the long term.

your only problem with purchacing a 2nd gen SiR is that there are now very few left to be imported as the 2nd gen wasnt popular in japan so they are either already taken or in the usa (GEORGE BUSH DONT LIKE BLACK PPL)

say if i did find one to import, roughly how much would it cost including da shipping fees.... do i just go to a japanese import dealer to ask them to import one for me?

It depends what went/goes wrong with it. $1800 to fix your gearbox? What was the problem?

Generally if you pickup a problem early before a bearing explodes, i will save you a lot of money.

Good luck to you finding one, that's still in japan - I had sooooooooooooooooooooooo much difficulty finding one through a reputable importer and the only crx that was available for the last 3 months at more than one auction yard was a si 87 auto crx........doesn't sound like my dream car that's for sure.

And being lucky enough to find one, complianced and everything they are around the $9500 mark. You are welcome to question this post but I researched this for a long time.

Cheers

there is a guy on crxaustralia.com selling a aussie gen2 crx WITH a b18c5 engine for 10k... if i didnt own one myself already and was looking for a crx..i'd get that! fairly cheap..considering front cuts cost atleast 5k plus labour and parts and the car.

but just depends on your own opinion on what you want.

Yer better value for money, but the gearboxes are not really stronger, do a call out to the da9 integra boys that have y1 cable boxes (like the SiR) lots of people have problems. SiR's are really expensive, a good one really is 13k and if you look at what is available in that price range I'd think about something newer. Converted is the way to go, there are a couple of ridiculously cheap ones about the place.

Weakest link in en EF8 or EF9 is it's gearbox  The Y1 has issues in 2nd and wears out fast. I have a number of friends in NZ who have had to deal with box issues - mostly due to heavy right feet.

BTW - my EF9 is now on 298,000+ genuine kms on it's original motor and gearbox. It runs the Hume Syd-Melb regularly as well as city driving. In the 6 1/2 years I've owned it and put 180,000kms on top of its original milage, the motor has never been cracked open once for a rebuild. Milage isn't a bad thing sometimes.

OMG - what a stupid comment :D

Check VIN numbers on some of the EF8 owners - I think you might find that you are sorely mistaken on how many were produced in varying JDM configs. Likewise the EF9.

They were VERY popular and still are by those that ca afford to keep the on the road. That's the crux. as a 15 year car, they fall under the wrath of Shaken (Stringent vehicle testing) and increasing rego costs as they get older.

I see them pop up on the aucrtions every week so I have no idea where you get your data from.

Setanta
16-10-2005, 09:56 PM
BTW BSRacer - don't the XSi and RSi JDM 'tegs run the S1 gearbox? I think EF8and EF9s only have the Y1.

As I recollect, theres the Y1, S1 and YS1.

'teg = different final drive.

setanta you may see them appear but most that are still over there wont pass to be roadworthy over here. I had been checking jdm crxs for 3 years and alot were in a shabby condition as my cousin lives in japan he checked them for me. To much rust and excesive mods, unroadworthy mods for australia. He checks imports for a living.... lucky bastard

I haven't perused everyone's comments thus far but from what I have, I speak from what I know...& that is I possess a boosted CRX SiR with 200+kW at the wheels & no gearbox issues at this stage...these are great little pocket rockets & although biased towards the GenII, the GenIII has the potential to bring much satisfaction if tastefully modded & well-researched power-enhanced...all the best with it

I have been a huge fan of the Gen 2 CRX ever since it was released in Oz...As a pimply faced teenager in high school i was all I ever wanted....

To be honest, not much has changed and I still often toy with the idea of getting one and turning it in to a nice little weapon...make it nice and light with a B16/18 under the hood and it should be nice little track car.

I often wonder why these aren't a more popular car from a performance/modding perspective (I'm not talking ricey crap, big bodykits and massive chrome wheels). everyone seems to be going the EG route. I know it is a generation older, but it's only a couple of years and the shape is IMO much more appealing/sporty than the EG. (I do still love a good Eg though)

Keep up the good work Gen 2 guys....it is up there as one of the best cars Honda has built IMO
