Which one is better from a performance point of view?

Taking hatchbacks as an example, which one handle better in stock form?

I realised an EG is quite a bit lighter than an EK so I guess EG would be quicker, but handling?

And also, handling if both had same mods done, ie springs, shocks, strut braces and swaybar

before calling another noob, please note the "Newcomer" title under your name

In reference to teh question, EGs will be quicker mod for mod in straight line form due to their lighter weight in theory. Whether this makes any noticeable difference in daily driving is another matter as the difference is not really awesomely big

In terms of handling i've found the EKs to be better handlers than EGs for the sole reason that EKs are newer and the various suspension parts, etc will be in better condition. Sures u can change some of the suspension but there will be components that are cost prohibitive to change that can age, deterioriate, etc.

I cant speak from the technical, chassis design pointof view tho.

Ghost I was hoping to get an answer without age being a factor.

ie a brand new EG Vs a brand new EK hatch?
I thought the weight difference would be near 100kg or so? EK looks much heavier at least.
Which chassis is better?
I understand an EG is pretty much a DC2 isn't it?

All true.. but for AUS market the best EG came with a twin cam non vtec.. or single cam vtec...........
the ek came with twin cam vtec..

If you were to compare the jdm eg b16 then hands down..
The sheering acceleration mid corner would rip a new "A" hole in an EK

Eg's are great.. Eg si's are great.. but the ek VTiR has more potential and alot more development..

JDM eg SIR is in another league

perhaps you should be more specific which model grade youd like to compare as they all differ with some having rear swaybars while others dont.

vti vs vtir? si vs vtir? breeze vs cxi? gli vs gli? lol

Depends on what you are after. The EK has a better chassis, so it will handle better than the EG. But the EG is lighter, so it would be a bit quicker. Personally I like the EK's, as you can get them to handle really well, without much work.

id say EG
try to get yourself a EG SIR.
the SIR has more added stiffness compared to the AUDM EG's
bigger sway bars stiffer spring rates
front lower tie bar etc etc
i have driven a ek4 with the same mods as my old civic.
and personally i like the EG handling..
the EG handling feels more alive than the EK.

dude im not taking the piss here but u have to take age into consideration. age is one of the most significant factors there is. like if u were comparing an EF to an EP, then u couldnt say compare these without relating to age. same situation, age is a big factor.
personally id say the EK would be nicer if u wana spend alot of money on it, but if u want sumthing a bit smaller and fun then id go with the EG, i look at the EG as more of a toy car, no disrespect to anyones EG, there are sum really sik EGs out there

you also have to look at which model you are comparing. as different model has different suspensions, brakes engine etc etc

EGs are cheaper , and older (prone to obvious wear in engine and suspension compnements) and EK's are newer and generally better equipped.

IMO if you want a fast car get a EG and do a conversion or turbo etc.
If you want a firm stocky ride and clean interior get a EK4 or EM1.

JDM eg SIR is in another league

If we are talking about the elite from each kind you should be comparing the EK9 to the EG6. I believe the EK9 would be on top in all area's.

Sorry guys for not making it more clear,
but I am not looking at buying either one, I am just curious to which car was better from the factory when Honda produced it, not taking into account creature comforts or anything, purely performance and handling.

So, a brand new EG hatch with a B16A, I am guessing a SiR? In comparison to a EK VTi-R? Which is the newer model to it?

Or, lets just say a EG hatch with a B16A conversion, with a whiteline handling pack Vs a EK hatch with the same engine and same whiteline handling pack?

Which would win on a race course?
EG obviously will be quicker, but which will handle better?

What I am trying to establish is, Honda made a new car, but which one is really better from only a performance point of view? And that's why I don't want age to be a part of the comparison as it automatically puts down the older car

Like everyone else has said... there's so many factors wen comparing two different chasis with moderately similar mods.

The things you are asking are really just impossible to determine. Assumptions will lead to nowhere and an open debate which will have no answer... Basically wot i'm saying is probably know one can answer your query... especially if you compare a brand new modified eg with a brand new modified ek...

But wot i reckon is that the EK being a newer generation of the Civic would most likely have a stronger stiffer chasis just because it is newer and Honda obviously have to try to improve on the previous model. Remember, these cars aren't purely performance orientated, they're daily drivers.

So how about comparing an EG SiR vs EK VTiR? or EG SiR Vs EK CTR? Anything else i reckon can only be compared on the track... this is all talk in the end ;)
