can anyone tell me if this would work???
b18a g/box bolted onto b16a engine???
just curious if it would work, as the ratios would be different. and what would the difference be, strength wise between b18a/b16a 5 speed g/box's??
it will be a bolt on...
any b series gearbox is a bolt on to b series engine

cool, thanks. i thought it was, itll just have different ratios yeh?? i think i read that the b18a and b16a gear box have the same ratios in 1st and 2nd, then 3/4/5 are different. is that correct??

depends on what gearbox it is different cars came with different boxes all for the same or similar motors, even some tranny codes like Y1(mine..) can have a close and long ratio version, if you want it for a b16 though you are gonna want to get a closer ratio box than the one from the b18a otherwise you will be falling off the VTEC lobe on the gear change possibly. plus it will compensate a little for the lower torque of the b16

but thats not gonna be damageing anything will it? its kinda like sayin in a turbo chearged car, when you change into the next gear you wont be on full bosst still, right???

it means that when you are booting it and change gears, due to the longer gearing on the tranny it will switch back to non-VTEC lobes and then have to rev up and switch back again. most standard VTECs have a bit of a torque flat spot at around the changeover point so you don't really want to be starting your gearshift there. I doubt whether it would make a huge amount of difference and it will not do any damage to the motor, but while you are doing a swap like this then why not go for the closer ratio box? they are not that expensive, I got mine for $750 but that was over 2 years ago i reckon you could get them a lot cheaper now.
