Just wondering if any of your cars seem to run better on 95 octane rather than 98??

yep. fuel burns better and power is gained from a car that is made for specific-RON Fuel

So those of you who have a 91 octane tuned car, do you find it runs better on 95 as compared to 98?

i do. I'm pretty sure the octane level is the rate that the fuel furns at. The higher the octane the slower it burns

my car was tuned for 91 and runs better on 91 than 95 and 98, i get alot more kms out of 91 as and this is not just an opinion its clearly noticable on my car. (2.2L SOHC VTEC)

all of this is pretty meaningless, considering the methods you are all talking about.
unless you can can quote averages over an extended period, to a completely empty tank, 95 vs 98, then the fact that the way you drive is slightly different every time (traffic, for example) means that your fuel consumption comparisons are only meaningful if you average them out over many tanks, doing very similar driving.
similarly, every man and his dog will say 'my car feels better on 98', which is a complete joke. dyno pulls would mean something; butt dyno doesnt.
the simple facts are that if your ecu can advance the ignition timing, you'll make MORE power on higher octane fuel. if your ecu cant do this, you wont.

95 seems alrite..

better fuel consumption on 95 but more torque and power from 98 with slightly worse fuel consumtion.

Mine runs better on 95 cause that's what it's tuned for but I sometimes think 98 runs smoother.

Well after 6 months of use, i can definatly say, i get better economy out of 91 than 95 E10

I can't tell the difference in power and consumption between 95 and 98. But I can feel that 98 is smoother.

Mileage is the same IMO, my motor just seems to run smoother on higher grade Premium petrol (BP Ultimate 98 / Shell V-Power).

91 is shit
95 feels okay...
98 feels smooth

we were discussing 95 vs 98 regular fuel, not ethanol blends.
obviously you will get poor economy from e10, per unit, ethanol produces much less power than petrol, so its a given.

Really? Where did it say that?

I'm not talking about ethanol...that stuff is crap and I would never put it in my car. I used e10 91 octane in my company Toyota Corolla and that thing coughed, spluttered and engine died at a red light!! Plus it made the engine rev noisier and noticable decrease in responsiveness/power. Put regular 91 non-ethanol back in on the next tank and the different was chalk and cheese...

.......:D
i normally use 98, so im not sure...
with a JDM engine isnt it better to run at 98 octane??/

Yes it is, since your b16a is tuned to jap fuel (which is 100 RON)

arent the rating systems different? ie our 98ron /= jap 98ron

RON is RON
MON is MON
PON is PON
The tests to determine RON, MON and PON are standardised. So RON measured in one country is the same as the RON in another country, unless they fudged the test results.
Yes, our RON rating is the same as Japan's RON rating.
USA has a different rating because they use PON.
