i don't want any engine conversion, just something simple.. like having the Vtec kicking in at third gear. in a Si engine

Is it the D16A8 engine, because you can't put a DOHC VTEC* head on there.

Really? If find third gear is actually quite strong. Always pull away against other equivalent cars in that gear.

BTW: Why VTEC because of 3rd gear?

yeab because of vtec.. coz dats when the most power comes in
when i race my friendz vti-R take them 1st and 2nd easy.. but third they just catches up.. LOL.. end of third there in front 1 to 2 cars..
by the way.. my car only has an exhurst

He has DOHC VTEC, you don't. So he will always have the upper hand unless you spend a LOT of $$$ on your engine.

Depends on your definition of "real".

Depending on how many shots you run, power isn't limited to just a 20kW increase at the wheels.

It is a simple solution for one off uses where a full swap/turbo setup isn't needed.

Mate, if you want beat an integra vti-r, maybe you should by one and then do it up a bit. Either that or do the b18 conversion. You can't get something for nothing!

to answer your Question - NO you cant get a VTEC head for the ZC DOHC.

if you like the car and dont have much cash and just want to whip an integra every now and then, get a 60HP shot of NOS.. your std engine should be able to take it OK as long as you dont spray every day !!

Otherwise save your $$ for a B16A2.. even a B18B ( LS integra ) would be fun for your car..

dont bother turboing your ZC.. cheaper to go B16A2

for now though, rip-out your air-box and resonator and replace with a K&N style cone filter on the end of your Std intake tube and you might have more chance through 3rd.. intake before exhaust for power gains..

I'm following you with your posts VTEChnique!!

Firstly, its a D16A8, not a ZC (they are equivalent!)

B16 won't beat B18C powered integra. If you want to win, go for the B18C in the civic.

OR

Turbo your si for good power that will chew up any NA B18C vti-r and give you buckets more torque to play with :) 5psi will do the trick without destroying your box/engine :)

and that should be written in stone. Only about 15bhp difference (VTiR 'teg), but a B18 will always pull away from a 16 :(

Because i have an ed9 crx with extractors, exhaust, k&n pod filter and run optimax and have beaten teg vti-rs to third gear.

must be because civic's are HEAVY mwhahaha. :lol:

I drive an EF9 - that's a factory 160bhp B16A powered '90 Civic. The difference is, I don't BS my power figures or my times and I know that given a competant driver in both cars, the VTiR 'teg will pull away every time in the end.

I run to 100km/h in second and at that point the teg has shifted to 3rd and is starting to pull away.

Keep telling us your "kill" stories though, I find them vagually amusing and will be happy to run you at the strip in my unmodified "heavy" car.

This is 1/4 mile mind you - there's a bit more than 3rd gear involved and Slave will attest to me out-gunning a mildly modified non-VTEC CRX completely - and me with 70 odd kilos of passenger in the SiR :)

Just remember - racing your granny in a VTiR 'teg doesn't count :P

Just to add more fuel, on the last OPH cruise last Tuesday, Eric's DC2 vti-r with 1 passenger, easily got a head of a civic vti-r with FULL EXHAUST.

But I think we already know a b18c is quicker than a B16A :)

It'd be interesting to see how you went up against real VTiR drivers - I have a feeling that they'd take you down in the 1/4 well and truly. FYI, as I said earlier - I can hold with a VTiR myself in the first 2 gears and I have a similar torque curve and output below VTEC... but then they pull away due to superior torque development. The fact that they run primaries and secondary stage engones helps them own a B16A too.

For me it's 0-60 in first, 60-100 in second, 100-158in third and 158-182 in 4th with lots of revs left over (damn JDM speed-limiter, I have to get a cut-out for it one day ;) )

Pretty sure - I'll have to check now as you have me wondering. I know that a VTiR 'teg usually changes to 4th before me when we are running - but don't know the ITR ratios.

Like you said, will have to check - off the street :)

I'm sure it was around 160 when i chnaged to 3rd. But now u make me think of it, i coulda been lying to myself and it was actually 140km's.
i'm not sure about 1st, but second runs out at 90 for me.

He thinks his car is soo good because its a "DOHC non-VTEC", compare to my '97 Civic Coupe "SOHC VTEC". Just to set the record straight, I had 3 ppl in my car and he had no passengers. We launched at the same time, but after redlining it on first and switching to second, I was way ahead by 1.5 car length.

Just makes me feel better to know that there is no chance of ppl driving Si or GLi Civics of beating ppl with VTEC, reguardless of SOHC or DOHC.

its 96kw vs 96kw - and he has prob less than 200 kg than u....do the math and u will realise he was prably gettin a Blow/j or turing a corner lol...

I think I know my car, it was built in '97, and back than they were only available in 1.6 SOHC VTEC for the Civic Coupe. DOHC VTEC came in '99-00.

My car isn't a true performer but it can beat GLi and Si. They dont have any chance even if they believe their $800 investment in some after market extractors would give them that extra gain.

Sorry but it dosn't because those engine were not design for performace, and you won't recieve any extra power from it.

Not saying V-TEC is the best because a HSV V8 would rip it anyday or night. Even a 4 cylinder 180SX would kill it. But just to make my statement clear:

I "ripped" my "arrogant minded" friend's Si, so therefore he could "shut the fark UP" from now on about how glamerous his car is.

Not having a go at any Si drivers out there. Maybe he was just a terrible driver. :twisted:

my speedo doesnt seem to be the most accurate of measuring instruments - when the arrow is dead set on 70, its actually 67.... so you guys may be slightly off as well :D

B and D series are NOT interchangable, they are totally different designs.

FYI: sohc vtec was only launched in Oz after the motor journo's learnt about the DOHC VTEC. Honda released the Vti and claimed it made 96kw - the equal of the Si.

The Honda car club dynoed these engines back to back when the Vti was still available, guess what................. The Si made 5kw more at the wheels than the Vti, Plus it had more torque everywhere. The Si was also lighter because it did not come with sunroof / bumper braces etc. They use the same box and came fitted with the same tyres. So of course you would assume that the Vti is faster, Because............. let me see, there must be a reason, ....... it has more letters in the model name .

If the sohc vtec is such a kick ass engine, Why did the models that followed the Si with the same engine (Vti / Vti coupe etc ) make less power? LET ME SEE, BECAUSE THE VTI only ever made 88KW, BUT YOU COULD NOT RELEASE THE ACCLAIMED VTEC WITH LESS POWER, So We got a watered down Vtec (Just like the Yanks had always had in the EG)!


Non Vtec integras are line ball with the Si, they have about the same power-to-weight and trque-to-weight. The ratios are also about teh same.

WHAT WE NEED IS AN OZHONDA 1/4 Mile shoot-off at all the tracks around Australia. Then all these asthmatic Vti's and base model Integra's can battle it out for non-vtec supremacy.

But at the end of the day DOHC is always better than SOHC VTEC AND DOHC VTEC Beats No Vtec. Regardless of capacity and chassis.


PS the Integra XSi has a b16a and was the top dog not the B18B, PONDER THAT!

Lets talk about iVTEC - Thats some power torque.
