View Full Version : what type of engine's have CRX's have?
hey guys
just curious as to what engine's CRX del-sol's have. the year model in question is a 1994 one.
also, is there such thing as SOHC Vtec? correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought all vtec engines are DOHC.
thanks in advance
VTEC engines came in DOHC and SOHC Variants.
CRX del sols in Australia are all DOHC VTEC correct me if im wrong.
I think it was only the JDM models that came in SOHC option.

australian delivered 92-98 CRX's (3rd gen) all have DOHC VTEC (b16a2)
it's the jdm/usdm (possibly other countries other than australia) ones that have the SOHC VTEC variant..
they also come with electric targa top, whereas the australian delivered ones come with a manual targa..

FYI the term "del-sol" is a US term. Not used or relevant here....Anyway the 92-95 CRX came only with a B16a2 in OZ.
Came with a 1.6 SOHC in the US too
i've just never heard of SOHC Vtec, until now.

yeah, people use it.. but officially in australia, it's just a CRX..
other countries use CRX del sol.. del sol.. and even civic del sol..
just a matter of what country you're in..
but in australia.. it's CRX..
but i do call it delsol, cos it's easier to refer it as that.. rather than a "gen 3 crx"

Whats the difference between SOHC Vtec & DOHC

dual overhead cam, 2 cams power intake and exhaust. a real nice performance boost, would probably add about a good 10-15kw difference between a SOHC and DOHC car, plus the vtec you can start seeing difference, ie. 60kw atw (SOHC nonvtec) and a 80-85kw atw VTi-R (DOHC vtec)
what about the SiR's? i saw a CRX SiR, isnt that just DOHC ?
whats even more wierd is my mates civic was Si and it was just dohc (fair enough), but what would the R be?? for VTi and VTi-R the R = dohc
damn honda and their confusing naming!

tru i call it a delsol as well sometimes, cause when ppl hear it a crx they automaticly think its the wedge shaped one lol
and yes all AUDM gen3 crx's came with b16a2 engines and manual targa tops
JDM and USDM delsols came with the SOHC and DOHC motors, i think some even came with the non VTEC motors

well in australia.
officially labelled, civic crx.
jeebus, who the **** cares, del sol, we all know what it is, and it helps distinguishing between crx's.
