My car is 92 Honda civic si sedan with a B16A2 conversion out of a 97 EK Vti-R.

I bought like this and there is a water temperature gauge inside. everytime when i drive a lot the temperature on the gauge is about 95'C (degree). i think this is too hot. but for the water temp on the original speedo, it's sitting normal and also there is no smoke or vapor from the engine.

is the conversion usually come with the B16A radiator or still using the original EG one?
How can i check..........is the water temp guage problem or it's overheating...........?

95 is normal

Yeah, 95 is normal. When you hit over 115ºC, then start worrying.

BTW, don't fang your car until you drive for twice the time it takes to reach at least 90ºC. Oil warms up even slower than coolant.

Yeah, I've seen up to 110ºC after a few laps at the track when letting the engine cool down.

95 is normal. 100 is ok. But i don't see why a normal car will hit temps above 95'degree, thats what the fan there to do cool the system down. If its overheating or going above 95 degree i would be checking thermostat or blocked radiator.

110? isn't that overheating?

I checked my car today. The engine conversion is with B16A....but still using the original 92 Si model's radiator. Is that all right? do i have to upgrade it? and what sort of radiator should i upgrade? thx

95 is normal. 100 is ok. But i don't see why a normal car will hit temps above 95'degree, thats what the fan there to do cool the system down. If its overheating or going above 95 degree i would be checking thermostat or blocked radiator.

110? isn't that overheating?

On the street, I see a max of 85ºC, in summer, 91ºC. I only hit 110º after a 20 minute session on the track (when moving, it's only at 90ºC) and that is only after the car has been driven around to cool down and left to idle.

i read somewhere that coolant is most efficient when its at 99 degrees Celsius...

unless ur planning to drive ur car on track days i wouldnt worry about upgrading radiator or thermostats...the Si radiator is more that capable...just make sure that all hoses are correctly clamped...


a lot of early 90's hondas came with these clamps

good advice, BUT stay away from the honda OEM ones - i replaced all my coolant hoses a while back, and of course bought the clamps from honda. over time, all bar 2 have broken, causing me quite a lot of grief. they werent overtightened, and the ones i got from supercheap have been in for quite some time with no such problems

yeah, hoses and clamps tend to be the weakest link in regards to oem cooling...in some ways its a good thing since these are also the cheapest things to replace...
