Hey
i have just bought a 98 Ek1 civic but i only got 1 key with the car .. the black one. after reading previous threads i have worked out it will cost 85 to get it cut.

my next option if available would be disarming the current factory honda immobiliser and just installing a whole new alarm set up with an immobiliser + keyless entry as the civics don't have keyless entry?..

so my question is it possible to bypass the factory honda immobiliser and install and an aftermarket alarm and cut a normal key without the chip inside?
cheers

That's just from the ECU, and won't help in this case. The car will still need the right key to activate the ignition barrel.

^^yeah but he is looking to remove it so he can install an aftermarket one anyway to have independent keys

Yeah, just saying he'll have to do more than just remove the imob from the ecu.

thanks for the feedback
i guess to save me the hassle..i'll just fork out the 85 for the key and get another alarm installed on top.
cheers

Quick question guys

in the market for a civic , if it comes with "OEM central locking" that includes the imboliser correct?

pre face lift EKs came with no immobilisers correct, just worried cause live in a dero area

I can disable the immo in the ECU for you and tell you how to bypass the ignition barrel.

the DIY I made does not cover the EK1 ECU

Just go to a locksmith.

they can cut you an aftermarket honda key and program it too.

not OEM, but does the job.

I tried this today and Mrminit quoted $110!! for a replacement Honda key with an imobiliser chip in it. If anyone finds one cheaper please let me know.

I know this thread is pretty old but it comes up in search so I figured it would be helpful to have some extra info in here.

It's worth checking out ebay.
I just picked up a blank honda key for my 99 civic; $20 + $3 postage.
I have barely looked around but I've seen cut & program for $50.
