G-day guys!!
Just bought back my old civic EG sedan from my sis and it was in bad condition then and now.....well..... lets say the boot lid is the only straight panel.

Just wondering where to start with fixing it. All the panels have dings some large some small and the paint has faded alot on the doors and roof.

I really want to do alot of the work myself and then have it painted by a pro.
so what are my options?

Buy panels from a wrecker and then sand back the paint if it does not match? Or just try to sand and bog them up myself? How hard is it?

Are there any sites with tuturials for doing this work?

Thanks for your help!!
Sorry for the questionare...:o

im no expert at all but i dont think you can fix the dents yourself because ive seen panel beaters work and its not something you can learn quick, its art really lol. so im thinking you just sand all the paint back and get a cheap but good panel beater to fix up then get someone to spray :P

i dunno maybe others can give better advice.

You could try pushing and massaging the dings with a blunt object (i use an allen key). Search on youtube for paintless dent removal for an idea. You don't have to perfect it, just make the dings shallow enough so you don't need to fill too much bog in it. Its very time consuming and took me nearly an hour on a ding. And of course this would depend if you can access the panel from inside as well.

Yeah thats all I want to do is just save money by doing the easy but hard work myself.

What sort of sandpaper will I need?? Would it be easier with a rotary buffer thing??

its art really lol.

sum's it up in one lol

it is a verry hard thing to master, esspicallt the pannel work side of thing's like boging up the car. i say give it ago if you dont really care that much, just dont be expecting a "show car" finish.

orbital sander btw

Yeah with the panels I might just find better condition ones at a wrecker.

How hard is it to sand back factory paint??
And what should I do when its back to bare metal? Should it be painted straight away to prevent rust??

What are the steps in doing this I guess is what im asking?
