I didnt hear from you today, is it idling better?
hope so!
hey buddy :)
sorry been busy / sick :(
well i swapped back to the stock TB until i can bring it in to you to have the idle relearn done... prob wont be until next week... when i can get time :(
Any news justin. We are really keen to hear whats the status is!
ok so update is:
the K20 head puts the water outlet in a different spot, so my custom made air intake now sits directly ontop of the radiator hose, meaning my intake is about 50-60degrees :( sucking in hot air = sluggish performance!
so i must make up a new intake... more time and money!
as for the stock ecu - when running with the J32A3 throttle body, the a/f ratios sit similar to what they used to, except under vtec... they used to sit around 11, they now lean out to 13.5... so im loosing power there!
im playing around with my options, i only drove it around for a day, so given more time i can see it learning... otherwise i may go piggyback ecu :zip:

The toda headers look good glowing like that - nice and even too so the flow is obviously pretty damn even across all primaries. How did you take that picture (how hot does the manifold have to be?)
I'm also curious as to why you didn't just change the cams? I'd always thought that in terms of flow the Accord euro k24a head was essentially the same as the DC5r k20a head?
You're probably getting sick of me saying this now, but...
definitely get this thing tuned! You're really not going to make the most out of the k20 head and all of your modifications unless you do. I also want to know what the real gains are when changing heads!

I think Justin wanted to prove that you could get good gains even without getting your ECU tuned.

that's true, and it has been really interesting watching it come together... it just makes me nervous for the owner and the car seeing all these mods go on without a tune.
I'm looking forward to the next stage all the same ;)

Just wondering... why is the idle RPM so high? high cams?
So when i can the the civic si intake manifold to my euro. there's no need to do anything to the ecu yeah? it will re learn itself?

yeh, direct bolt on. Wait for ECU....
just need to drain a bit of your coolant otherwise you'll have it leaking inside your engine bay.

Just wondering... why is the idle RPM so high? high cams?
bigger throttle body...
for example:
10% throttle on the stock TB might be 50cfm
10% throttle on 64mm TB might be 80cfm
so until the ecu learns that it doesnt need to open up so much at idle, itll rev higher...

found out something interesting today...
when the engine temp is below 30degree C - VTEC will not engage
lol and no, i wasnt revving the sh*t out of a cold engine, the engine temp was actually 92degree and oil temp 85degree... ECU just thought it was cold (trying to see if on cold start the engine advances ignition / increases fuel)
hehehe
Usually Honda's retard the timing on cold start & use the idle speed motor to bring the revs up.
(EG: K-Pro software, this can be disabled)
The mixtures are a little richer, but not a lot.

Try replacing the fuel pump reg in the tank with an adjustable unit.
Though it is probably a bother to do, .5 ~ .8 of an AFR is that hard to get from a reg.

as for the retarded timing, yeah, it didnt run aswell when it thought it was cold lol

It is reasonable if you have a level flat road. But that is usually not the case, which then affects the accuracy. If you took the Gtech to a place like WSID, then it would be very accurate because of the flat road. But if you tried using the Gtech on private roads, the numbers might be skewed.
So when are you coming to WSID to compare Gtech with official timing? :p

My RBC is going great guns. Its like the motor goes into angry mode at 5000rpm when vtec kicks in ( yo). I have the jtune so thats why the vtec is at 5000rpm. Really suits the RBC having the lower engagement i reckon.
Im getting a custom single exhaust as i reckon i might gain a bit with my mods.
Cant wait to hear about the dyno with the stock ECU! Fark I wish Kpro wasnt so exxey. I really want a tune with a 45 VTC~!

UPDATE!!!
sorry for everything taking so long guys... but it should be worth it!
anyway, the latest news is im going to trial the new RSP manifold of the JDM FN2R... its a three piece manifold thats casted with the same technology used in the NSX, it was internal velocity stacks, and a massive plenum for low down torque... here is a quick comparison between the stock RBB, the new RSP and my current RBC manifold...
please note that the RSP is missing the bottom half of the plenum, its still on order from japan... :(
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff128/eur003/DSCF2569Medium.jpg
i will hopefully at one stage measure and document on here the length of each manifolds runners, the width of the runners, the volume of the plenums, and other stuff like that  hope you guys like!
p.s these are f*@ken expensive to buy normally, around USD$800... luckily i got an awesome deal from my good mate michael from honda, otherwise i wouldnt be able to afford it lol

this afternoon ive been measuring up the differences between the RBC / RBB / RSP manifolds (length / width / volume)...
i wont be able to finish the comparison until i get the second half of my RSP. but i thought you might want to know early that the RBB has a total capacity of 3620cc compared to the RBCs 2800cc...
Fairly big difference! and ill tell you now, thats all in the runners... plenums are nearly the same size...
integral90
26-01-2009, 11:59 PM
Doesn't that 3620cc vs 2800cc difference only matter if the car can suck in >2800cc in a certain amount of time?
Like if the 2800cc RBC could be refilled with air before the car could suck in 2800cc to the chambers wouldn't the difference be pointless?

From my limited understanding and looking at these numbers... is the RSP just kind of the perfect mixture of the RBB's low end and the RBC's top end? It seems like the widths and runner lengths are either the same or inbetween the two?
Or am I completely wrong and the RSP is king in every aspect?

Or am I completely wrong and the RSP is king in every aspect?
yeah the runner blueprint is the exact same on the RBC and RSP, nice and fat... its only with the velocity stacks that it increases the max width because the trumpets flare out...
yeah the RSPs plenum is like twice the size of the others, and the runners are pretty much the same length as the RBC (apart from the stacks)...
the 'torque chamber' is the coolest bit, ill explain my theory on how it works later lol
Did you mean FD2 since it is JDM? FN2 is UKDM.
ummm... not sure, lol half of the manifold came from honda aus, half came from honda japan lol ill try check up... i know for sure its off the K20Z4 tho, so whatever civic has that in it...

Im thinking about installing a PNN4 transmission out of a 2007+ Civic Si into my car, it comes stock with 1.5 way LSD, and 4.7 Final drive... Not to mention the fact its got alot shorter 2nd gear, to fix up that massive acceleration gap the AUDM CL9 suffers from.
I also did some rough calculations on the top speeds in each gear between the K24A3 transmission, and the K20Z3 transmission...
K24A3 - - - - - K20Z3
---------------------
59km/hr - 1st - 54km/hr
104km/hr - 2nd - 83km/hr
142km/hr - 3rd - 116km/hr
187km/hr - 4th - 154km/hr
233km/hr - 5th - 192km/hr

Awesome! Finally someone is gonna fix that sorry excuse for a 2nd gear the Euro has. I was always complaining about it, but now with RBC it's 10x worse - traumatising even. How much can you pick them up for man? I'd be very interested. But also, doesn't the K20Z3 redline at 8000rpm stock? So all those top speeds you estimated be even lower because the K24 only revs to 7200rpm yeah?
Or maybe you've already taken that into account :o

those top speeds are all calculated on my 225/45/18s at 7400rpm rev limit (stock) :p
yeah the stock 2nd is shithouse... unless you smash 1st all the way to redline, it takes way to long to get her revving again... and if your taking a corner about 50-60km/hr in 2nd, omg talk about slow acceleration after it!
ill send you a PM on price... lets just say 70kg overseas shipping is nearly more than the whole tranny! :(

i spoke to a guy in US who has one in his TSX... worst case senario ill swap the gears into my K24 tranny case, or custom fabricate a mount...
the only issue i was concerned was with the shifter cables matching up, ive heard guys swapping them into rsx/integras not being able to shift into 3rd properly... but the tsx guy said his matches fine :)

Remember Justin has the RBC which shifts the power up a bit. 2nd is just bareable with the stock torque curve but it's terrible with the RBC, it bogs so hard into the gear and it's an awkward wait for it to get back up to around 5500rpm :p

on the track, taking a sharp corner at about 40-50km/hr your going to be in second, it takes way to long to then jump up to 100km/hr for your shift into 3rd...
i was originally just going to buy the 4.7FD and LSD... but it was pretty much the same price for the entire transmission as for just those two parts :p
a little more labour involved, but im going to do lightweight fly and clutch at the same time, probably main rear seal aswell

It'll certainly be quicker,
But at the expense of fuel economy in the lower gears.
If it's a track car or used on the drag strip, it'd probably pay off with quicker times.
For a roadie, it'd likley see you get a ticket sooner rather than later cause you'll want to rev it. LOL

Is your stock redline really 7400rpm? 'Cause mine is 7200rpm, did they change it in the 06+??
If they did you reckon it would be worth swapping a pre-06' ecu into my car to get that extra 200rpm out of the RBC's flow??

Btw after pulling the batts out after putting the greddy e ult in the car feels alot smoother;

I haven't checked yet.
I was in a rush to go for inspections on places to buy so i was lucky enough to stick it in.
Got there and tried to park next to the railway line rear to kerb parking and ended up scrapping so i moved to another spot and missed the inspection. :(
Surprisingly i didn't get any CEL. :) yes i left it to what you already had it set. You can feel it pull at the 5400 mark but can't hear it as loud also when you reach the 6k mark you feel it pull again more noticeably.
I am not sure whether the fuel made a difference in the smoothness but it sure feels like it since last tank i used was Vortex 98 and now is BP ult.
Anyhow if i don't talk to you this week i'll see you @ TODA on Saturday btw PM me or SMS the time your rocking up there and i'll turn up there the same time.

Peak power not as high as i wanted (dynos vary so im not fussed) but definately an increase in midrange power... As you can see, im making alot more torque between 5500rpm and 6900rpm, and you can definately feel that pull!

The thing I've found with the Euro is that it has good potential, but you're gonna pay a lot more for that than you would on to get it with another car (such as a DC5R)

MASSIVE UPDATE!!
So i recently purchased Greddy V-Manage to run along side my Greddy E-Manage Ultimate, I also ordered a custom made Boomslang USA harness to run all three ECUs...
See pic below:
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff128/eur003/Vmanage.jpg
You can see in this harness that it splits off onto two lines, one to the E-Manage Ultimate, and the other to the V-Manage :)
After finally getting around to install the two units, I updated my new tune files (which i created) and took it for a test run, to my suprise, my efforts to break the stock rev limiter WORKED!!
YES THATS RIGHT!! I TOOK MY K20/K24 FRANK ENGINE TO 8,400RPM IN MY HONDA ACCORD EURO :D
Now because i did not have my o2 sensor hooked up, or my oil pressure gauge to see what was happening under the hood at those rpm, i only did it once, as i didnt want to run it lean and fry the engine!! (I had guessed the fuelling for those revs using data from previous runs)
After connecting up my laptop and doing a data log run, i took it to just shy of 8,000RPM !!!
See picture below:
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff128/eur003/untitled-2.jpg
You can see where the revs (RED LINE) stumble as the stock ecu limits and the E-Manage takes over, but hopefully I can fix that up with some more tuning
I will do more runs once I've got all my sensors re-connected :)
On the V-Manage side of things, at the moment its throwing a check engine light, and its not logging VTC as planned. I will sort all of that out as soon as possible, however the only manual i have for it is all in Japanese! So its very very teadeous!
Also, my old Boomslang E-Manage Ultimate harness is up for sale :D

Hytech, a company in the USA, does customise the VTC mechanism via a pin which limits the advance to 45 degrees.

Got the V-Manage off eBay... ALOT cheaper than suppliers here in Aus were asking (~$700)
Only downside being I dont have the english manual :(
I love you, Justin :)
Haha cheers buddy, once i sought out the CEL ill post videos of the dash :D the needle looked crazy flicking past the 8,000 marker...
I also realised i wasnt even in VTEC when i did it (mechanism isnt active as V-Manage not yet programmed)

Another UPDATE:
I've found whats chucking the Check Engine Light - The VTC actuator control from the V-Manage requires an extra GReddy part (which i cant find anywhere!) to trick the ECU into seeing the VTC solenoid connnected and functioning... Im going to test the solenoid tonight and see what its internal resistance is, then hopefully i can make my own 'tricker box' :)
Hopefully once i got it all sorted, no one will ever have to go thru this much trouble!!
